Hello Friends!
Are you feeling a little patriotic? Then I have a great DIY project for you: an American flag pillow. If you do a Google search for American flag pillows, you’ll find pillows ranging from $8.99 (not really a bad price) to $30 an upwards. My DIY pillow is just as patriotic but much more budget-friendly. Follow along and I’ll show you how to create one for your home.
Supply list
- small American flag (with hemmed edge preferably)
- white placemat (with a back layer of fabric
- stuffing from a pillow or Polyfil
- scissors
- glue gun
I found this placemat at Dollar Tree and I already had the flag. I’ve had it for a while and I’m not sure where I got it.
Begin the project by removing the flag from the pole, being careful not to loosen the stitching at the edge. Then lightly spot glue the flag to the placemat.
To fill the placemat/pillow, cut a small hole near the bottom edge on the back side and begin filling with stuffing from a pillow or Polyfil.
I got a cheap pillow from Dollar General and used about half of the stuffing for this project.
When pillow is at desired fullness, glue the opening closed. Don’t worry if it’s a little messy, no one will see this.
(For a more detailed tutorial on creating a placemat pillow, check out this blog post.)
Turn the pillow over and secure the flag with small dabs of glue around the edge where needed.
And the American flag pillow is READY to display! How CUTE is this?! And it was so easy to create for only a few dollars. And I think it looks just as GOOD as all those other flag pillows for sale online: for a lot LESS money.
I hope I’ve inspired you show off your RED, WHITE, and BLUE by creating a patriotic pillow similar to this one!
