Hello Sweet Friends,
Spring will soon be upon us and I thought it was time for a cute little Spring/Easter craft; a carnation bunny. You may have seen bunny mums or bunny carnations made with fresh flowers, but I’ve decided to create one using white faux carnations from the Dollar Tree. In fact, most of the supplies used in this craft were found at the Dollar Tree. So without further delay, let’s HOP right into it!
Supplies needed for Carnation Bunny
- 1 white faux carnation bundle/bush with 7 carnations
- 2 white pipe cleaners/chenilles
- pretty spring ribbon – approx. 24 inches
- 2 googly eyes
- 1 small pink pompom
- waxed thread – approx. 12 inches
- small clay pot
- floral foam
- 1 small white pompom
- green moss, Easter grass, or faux foliage
- floral tape
- glue gun
- scissors
- wirecutters
Begin the carnation bunny by cutting off two of the faux carnations from the bundle/bush. Leave the stems about 4 or 5 inches long. (The carnations from the Dollar Tree didn’t seem full and fluffy enough so I put two carnations together to create one full one.)
Attach the two stems together using green floral tape. Wire or zip-ties could also be used as a substitute for the floral tape, as long as the two flowers are held together to create one.
Create the bunny ears by folding over a white pipe cleaner and glueing it to a piece of ribbon. See picture below.
Trim any excess ribbon and discard.
Put the two ears together and attach to the base of the faux carnation with floral tape. Again wire or zip-ties may be used for this step. (Pictured from the back below)
After the ears are attached, turn around to the other side and it should look something like this. (I just set it in the little pot to prop it up while I am working on it)
Create some bunny whiskers by cutting three lengths of waxed thread and tie together.
Glue on the bunny whiskers and nose to the center of the carnation.
Using a glue gun, add two googly eyes to the carnation, just above the nose and whiskers.
How cute is this little carnation bunny? I just love it! But, of course, I wasn’t quite finished. I decided to create a body for it out of the remaining white faux carnations in a small terra cotta pot.
Add some floral foam to a small clay pot.
Cut the remaining faux carnation stems to about 1 – 2 inches and insert into the pot. It should create a nice rounded shape.
Insert the bunny head into the mound of carnations. Add some moss or greenery around the base of the bunny. Embellish with a small ribbon.
And don’t forget to add a small white pompom for a tail.
And here is the finished project!
I can’t believe how CUTE this is! I LOVE it! It was so easy to create; I hope I’ve inspired you to create one for your home.
