Coastal Farmhouse Framed Seashells

You are here: Home / Budget-Friendly / Coastal Farmhouse Framed Seashells

Hello Sweet Friends,

Lately, I’ve really enjoyed sharing DIY decor ideas with you with the coastal farmhouse theme. I just love the peaceful, relaxing COLORS; it makes me yearn for a relaxing vacation near the WATER. But until then I’ll just have to keep creating decor with a coastal farmhouse vibe.

Follow along and I’ll show you how to easily create these framed seashells from Dollar Tree items.

Supply list

  • 4 X 4 frame
  • starfish, sand dollar, or seashell for each frame
  • 7 tongue depressors per frame
  • white paint
  • brown paint
  • aqua paint
  • scissors
  • glue gun

Begin this project by removing the backing, paper, and glass from the picture frames. Keep the backing, and discard the paper and glass (or save for a future project). Paint the frames with white paint. It will probable take two or three coats. Let dry between coats. I used Waverly plaster chalk paint on my frames.

Brush lightly with watered down brown paint to give it an aged appearance. I used Waverly antique wax and watered it down.

Next, using scissors, cut down the tongue depressors to fit the frame. Seven fit perfectly in this Dollar Tree frame.

Dilute some aqua paint with water and lightly brush onto the tongue depressors. I used the Mondo Llama smooth sea glass paint from Target.

I just LOVE the aged look of the aqua paint. It’s such a pretty color.

When the paint has dried, glue the tongue depressors into the frames and replace the back. This creates a nice SHIPLAP look for a background.

The final step is to glue a seashell, starfish, sand dollar, or other coastal item into the center of the frame.

Wow! I think this project turned out SUPER cute! And it was very easy to create. It makes a perfect accent for any coastal farmhouse decor. I got my starfish and sand dollar from Dollar Tree, but a seashell found at the beach could be used for a more personal touch.

I hope I’ve given you some inspiration for your next DIY project!

Happy Crafting!

Pamela

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
