Hello Sweet Friends,
Today I will be showing you how to create a beautiful SPRING decor piece using a calendar page from Jennifer Pugh’s 2023 Seasons of Joy Calendar. Of course, you may use an image from any source; calendar, printable, gift bag, etc. using the same technique.
This decor piece was fairly easy to create, and the finished project turned out so PRETTY! I love florals and just about anything vintage, weathered, and distressed so this project really fits the bill.
Gather ‘round my crafting table and see just how I created this BEAUTY!
Supply list
- Calendar image
- wood plank sign
- pencil
- ruler or other straight edge
- scissors
- Mod Podge and brush
- sanding block/sandpaper
- ribbon/embellishment
- glue gun
I chose a wood plank sign that was the same size as the calendar page (12” x 12”) to attach the image to. It was already painted gray, so I decided to leave it that color. It has been in my craft stash for a while so I’m not sure where I bought it, but I think it was the local Walmart.
The first step in this project was to detach the calendar page as close to the seam as possible so as to retain the 12 x 12 size.
I did not worry too much about the edge being uneven, because I wanted the finished piece to have a weathered vintage vibe anyway. Once I had the page separated from the calendar, I measured every two inches and drew horizontal lines in pencil onto the image.
Then I carefully cut the image along the pencil lines, into six separate strips, so there was a piece of the image for each plank of wood.
The next step was to apply the strips of paper to the wood planks with Mod Podge. I added Mod Podge to the wood first, then pressed the strip of paper onto the wood.
I started at the bottom of the sign and worked my way up. After the complete image was on the sign, I gave the whole thing a topcoat of Mod Podge.
After the Mod Podge had dried, I took some sandpaper and roughed up the edges and along the seams of the paper to give it a weathered, distressed look.
I just kept going until I thought it had enough distressing. Little bits of the paper came off with the sanding, helping greatly with the weathered look.
The final step was to add a little embellishment. I chose neutral ribbons and foliage, as well as, a button. All of it was glued to the top center of the sign, taking care to not cover up the word WELCOME.
How CUTE is this sign? I am just so THRILLED how it turned out! I hope you like it, too.
This idea could literally be used for any image; it’s not limited to just calendar pages. The calendar page image had a wood grain background, so I think it worked especially well.
I hope I’ve inspired you to try a project like this one for your home. It was fairly easy to create and turned out beautifully!
Until next time…..
Happy Crafting!
Pamela
