Hello Sweet Friends,
Today’s craft idea is the sweetest little ghost of an idea: a ghost boo bucket DIY. I’ve been seeing these ghost bucket ideas on Pinterest lately that I thought were so CUTE, but the price tag was a little more that I wanted to spend. So I decided I would try to DIY it instead. And I am very HAPPY with the results.
I’m naturally drawn to neutral colors, so this project was perfect for my home decor and I hope you will be able to use this idea for your home as well.
So without further delay, let’s get to the directions for this project.
Supply list for ghost boo bucket
- plastic container with wavy sides
- white and brown paint and paint brush
- black adhesive-backed felt
- styrofoam ball cut in half
- various faux fall stems, many from Dollar Tree
- glue gun
- scissors
- wire-cutters
To begin this project, I purchased a plastic candy/serving dish at Walmart for a few dollars. As you can see, to has nice curved sides; perfect for this ghostly DIY. I flipped it upside down for this project.
Let’s Get Started
Using Waverly chalk paint in the color plaster, I completely covered the outside of the candy dish with two coats, letting it dry in between.
Next, I added some brown paint (Waverly antique wax) in between the curves of the container, then wiped it off with a paper towel. This added some shading to the “ghost”.
Then I cut eyes out of the adhesive-backed felt. (The felt was purchased also from Walmart.) After the eyes were cut out, I simply peeled the backing off, and placed them onto the ghost.
Doesn’t this LOOK super cute already?
Adding florals to the Ghost Boo Bucket
So, now I had to get creative with how I placed the foam for the arrangement. Since I am using this container upside down, I hot-glued half of a styrofoam ball onto the top.
After separating all of my stems with wire cutters, I just started placing them into the foam. I tried to make it look like there was an opening at the top of the ghost, that the florals were coming out of.
A little bit of black moss (shredded paper) was placed on any foam that showed through the stems. A few white pumpkin stems were added to finish the piece.
And, again I ask, how seriously CUTE did this turn out?
Best of all, this project cost much less that the Pinterest version.
This ghost boo bucket is displayed with another DIY of mine, a Dollar Tree rope tray. If you’re interested in creating one, here is the link to that project.
Have I mentioned how much I LOVE how this piece turned out?
I hope this ghostly little project has inspired you to get creative with your seasonal home decor.
Until next time…… Happy Crafting!
BOO y’all!
