Hello Friends,
Today, I have created a vintage-inspired bunny frame, a perfect addition to any Easter or spring decor. It’s really a two-part project; the frame and the bunny. I just love the look of layering items with different details, which you will soon see is exactly how I created this piece. I feel that the more detailed a piece is, the more interesting it is to look at!
I’m really excited to share this project with you, so let’s get started!
Supply list
- frame for 8 x 10 photo
- one pack of ten 12” paint sticks
- small rabbit from Dollar Tree garland
- one 5″ x 7.5” wood decorative plaque
- scrapbook paper
- ribbon and small embellishment, optional
- Mod Podge
- Waverly plaster chalk paint and antique wax
- Mondo Llama sea glass paint
- scissors
- saw to cut the paint sticks
- hot glue gun
As I mentioned before, this project is in two parts. So we will be starting with the bunny.
I found this cute Easter garland at the local Dollar Tree and just loved it. Since I didn’t really have anywhere to display it, I decided to separate the bunnies and carrots and use them in different projects. So I picked one of the bunnies and started by removing the tail. Some of the checked paper came with it, but that wasn’t a problem at all.
I decided to cover the bunny with some book page scrapbook paper that I already had on hand. After applying a liberal amount of Mod Podge, I pressed the scrapbook paper to the bunny and let it dry.
Then I cut the paper down as close as I could to the bunny, then sanded off the excess.
To give it a more aged, vintage look, I lightly brushed the bunny with some white paint.
After the bunny was complete, I was ready to move on to the frame.
I thought the frame was pretty, but it would look even better with a coat of white paint. So Waverly plaster chalk paint to the rescue! If you have been following me for very long, you probably have seen me use this paint for many projects.
Two coats of the chalk paint were used and then lightly brushed with Waverly antique wax.
While I was waiting for the frame to dry, I moved onto the small wooden plaque. I decided this project needed a POP of color, so I chose a lovely sea glass color. So PRETTY!
At this point, I moved my attention to the paint sticks, purchased from Lowes. I wanted to create a sort of “shiplap” look for the background. So I cut the paint sticks to fit the frame. It ended up being slightly less than 8” and took all ten of the paint sticks. I asked my Craftsy Soul-mate to do the honors! He was very obliging.
The paint sticks needed a white wash, so I used the same paint and watered it down a little. When they were dry, I placed them in the frame. The back cover of the frame held the paint sticks in place, so I did not have to glue them like I initially thought.
The final step was really just to glue everything together. I stacked all of the layers together to see what it would look like. Then I got busy with the glue gun. Of course, I added a ribbon, and a small embellishment, too.
I really LOVE how this project turned out! All of the details make it so eye-catching. The decorative frame, the faux shiplap, the book page bunny, the overall vintage look. And you know I love neutrals, but having that extra little POP of color really sets this off. It’s such a pretty color.
I honestly could not decide where to display this. Right now I have it on my piano, but who knows if it will stay there long?
I hope you like this idea and are inspired to create something similar for your home.
