Create an Easy Dollar Tree Rope Basket

You are here: Home / Budget-Friendly / Create an Easy Dollar Tree Rope Basket

Hello Sweet Friends,

For today’s DIY craft project, I will be showing you how to create a rope basket using supplies from, where else but, Dollar Tree. The finished piece can be used for so many different things but since it is currently the fall season, I will also be showing you a few display ideas for this time of year.

As long as you have a glue gun and a little bit of patience, I will show you the ropes, and you will soon have a beautiful rope basket of your very own. So, quick, run to your local Dollar Tree for supplies.

Supplies needed

  • Dollar Tree plastic bucket with handles
  • 10 bundles of Dollar Tree rope
  • scissors
  • glue gun

As you can see, there is a very short list of supplies for this super easy DIY.

Let’s get started

The first step in creating the rope basket is to unroll one of the rope bundles. There is a clear plastic cover on the end to hold the rope threads together; so I removed it the best that I could without unraveling the rope. Then I dabbed the end of the rope with a little bit of hot glue, and let it cool.

Then starting at the bottom of the plastic bucket, I began glueing the rope around and around the bucket until I ran out of rope. I glued the rows of rope as close together as possible.

When I got to the end of the first rope bundle, I glued the end very securely to the container. Then I started with the second bundle, and just kept glueing and glueing until I came to the end of the rope again.

Again, I glued the rows as close as possible together so that the color of the container would not show through.

I just kept repeating the process until I reached the top of the container. At this point, I decided to cut off the handles of the bucket.

Finishing the rope basket

When I had reached to top of the bucket, I decided that I wanted to continue with the rope to the interior of the container a little bit. So that’s just what I did.

And I just LOVE how this beautiful basket turned out! Doesn’t it look FANTASTIC?

I really wanted to see how it would look with a mum plant for fall, but I didn’t have one. So I added some fall leaves instead.

Or another alternative would be to add a blanket and pillow to the basket for a nice cozy look.

Another great idea would be to transition the basket for the Christmas season by adding a Christmas tree to it. Or maybe fill it with scented pine cones and evergreens. There are just so very many ways this basket could be used.

I hope this idea has inspired you to create something beautiful for your home this holiday season.

Until next time……. Happy Crafting!

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
