Hello Sweet Friends,
The DIY project I am featuring today is another calendar page repurpose: creating a really cute piece of farmhouse decor using the September image from the 2023 Seasons of Joy calendar and a beautiful oval frame.
If you have been following me for very long, you have probably seen my other projects using other images from the same calendar. Framing an image might seem like an overly simple idea, but you’ll soon see that I’ve put my own spin on it. I couldn’t just put the image in a frame, I had to jazz it up a little bit!
As I go through each month, creating a new project, I think, “Ooo.. this is my favorite one!” And the September project is no exception. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that autumn is my favorite time of year and this is a beautiful fall image.
Follow along as I show you the EASY steps I took to create this piece.
Supply list
- September calendar page from Jennifer Pugh’s 2023 Seasons of Joy calendar
- 11×14 wooden oval frame, mine was thrifted
- an old book page
- X-acto blade
- foam board
- Waverly chalk paint in the color plaster
- Mod Podge
- pencil/pen and scissors
- faux fall florals and foliages
- wire cutters
- ribbon and wire
I got the frame at a thrift shop and the first thing I did for this DIY was to paint it an off-white color; Waverly chalk paint in the color plaster. It took a couple of coats with dry time in between. Then I traced and used an X-acto blade to cut out a piece of foam board to fit the back of the frame, because the frame did not have a backer board to it.
For the next step, I traced the oval foam board onto the calendar image. I centered the image as best I could, then cut along the traced lines. As you can see, I had to cut off some of the wording at the bottom. Also, the calendar page was not quite wide enough for the frame.
Using Mod Podge, I attached the calendar image to the oval piece of foam board. I also hot-glued a few small faux bittersweet to the image.
I had to get a little bit creative the tidy up the perimeter of the calendar image. So I took a page from an old dictionary and tore it into pieces.
Before attaching them to the image, I arranged the book page pieces in a pleasing manner. I carefully glued them on using Mod Podge, overlapping slightly. Then applied a topcoat of Mod Podge.
Once the Mod Podge had dried, I cut off the excess paper. Then applied some white paint to make it blend in with the white background of the image.
Next, I hot-glued the oval foam board image into the frame. The project was nearly complete at this point. How CUTE is it looking?
I used some fall faux florals and foliages, and I tied a neutral bow. Then glued all to the base of the frame to finish the LOOK!
How BEAUTIFUL is the finished piece? I love the muted colors for fall and I feel like they work perfect for this September calendar image. I couldn’t be more HAPPY with the result.
I hope I’ve inspired you to get creative with calendar images. For last month’s calendar page craft idea, click here. Or use the search bar and search by the month.
