Hello Sweet Friends and Happy Fall Y’all,
The title of today’s post might be a little deceiving, but let me explain. I will be showing you how to make mini pumpkins from Dollar Tree decorative rolling pins that are not really functional. When you see the pictures, you will understand what I mean.
This little idea is so simple and EASY, and so ADORABLE, you will want to go to the nearest Dollar Tree and grab up some rolling pins ASAP!
Without any delay, let’s get to the instructions. I hope you find making these mini pumpkins as EASY as pie; pumpkin pie, that is!
Supply List for Mini Pumpkins
- Dollar Tree decorative rolling pin
- saw
- sandpaper
- orange paint, I used Waverly chalk paint in the color pumpkin
- white paint, I used Waverly chalk paint in the color plaster
- paint brush
- fall ribbon and embellishments
- glue gun
As you can see, these rolling pins are flat and meant to be decor pieces rather than actual functioning rolling pins. I forgot to get a picture before cutting the rolling pins in half, but you can kinda see what they looked like originally.
The first step was to cut the rolling pins into two pieces. Instead of cutting in half exactly, I wanted the pumpkins to varying heights, so I had my husband cut them a little off-center.
And to get rid of the glitter, I had to get a little bit aggressive with some sandpaper. Dollar Tree does not want that glitter to fall off! I could have just used the back side, which was plain, but I wanted to paint both sides.
After I cleaned off all of the glitter and dust from sanding, the pumpkins were ready for some paint. Both sides were painted with dry time in between coats.
Then I decided to paint the handles/stems with white paint. Again, it took a couple of coats with dry time in between.
Here’s how the mini pumpkins are looking so far. Then I tied some small fall ribbons for the pumpkins. Also, I was going to add some ivy ribbon for some greenery.
Using a hot glue gun, I added the greenery ribbon to each of the pumpkins.
And I glued the little bows to the stems, adding a button to the center. As a final flourish I added some rustic wire curlicues onto the stems. (Here’s my Amazon affiliate link for the rustic wire, if you are interested.)
I have to say that these little pumpkins turned out so CUTE!
This little project was super EASY and turned out so CUTE! I hope you decide to give it a try.
You just can’t go wrong with a Dollar Tree craft. Always so budget-friendly!
Until next time…….. Happy Crafting!
