Create Word Blocks out of Dollar Tree Foam Dice

You are here: Home / Budget-Friendly / Create Word Blocks out of Dollar Tree Foam Dice

Hello Sweet Friends,

When I bought a package of foam DICE from Dollar Tree, I wasn’t really sure how or what I was going to use them for. They came in a four-pack and were brightly-colored; and I saw a potential craft project in them. The blocks stayed in my craft stash for a couple months before I decided to make a set of decorative WORD BLOCKS out of them.

Gather around my craft table and see just how EASY it was to transform these colorful foam dice into a set of reversible WORD blocks.

Supplies needed

  • Dollar Tree foam dice 4-pack
  • small wooden letters (I got mine at Dollar General)
  • gray and white chalk paint
  • paint brush
  • Mod Podge
  • glue gun

Removing the packaging was the first step to this project. After deciding what words I wanted to use, I separated out the letters from the bag of Dollar General mini wooden letters that I already had on hand. As you can see above, the words are L-O-V-E and H-O-M-E.

Painting the dice with gray paint (Waverly chalk paint color steel) was the next step. I’m not going to lie, it took about four coats of paint with dry time in between, to cover up the bright colors.

Next up was painting the letters with white paint. I just painted them right after the blocks each time, so they ended up with about four coats of paint too.

I added a coat of Mod Podge to each block as a sealer.

After the Mod Podge was dry, I glued the letters onto the blocks. I attached the word LOVE on one side and the word HOME on the opposite side. (I probably could have used the same letter O and letter E for both words, but that was an afterthought.)

And I have to say that I am THRILLED with how these decorative word blocks turned out! They were so simple and EASY to create. I simply LOVE a neutral-colored project that is ALSO easy to make.

These cute little decorative blocks can easily be added into almost any vignette. Line them up, or stack them; they look GREAT either way! Sit them on a shelf, window sill, or tiered tray. The decor possibilities are endless.

I hope I’ve inspired you to give this little home decor idea a try! Until next time……

Happy Crafting!

Pamela

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
