Hello Sweet Friends,
For today’s DIY craft, I will show you how to decoupage a calendar page to a tray, creating a beautiful fall decor piece. If you have been following me for any length of time, you have probably seen my other projects featuring calendar page images.
I’ve been working my way through Jennifer Pugh’s 2023 Seasons of Joy calendar and I am currently up to the month of October. The page for October features a sweet, fun, candy corn image. Fall is my favorite time of year, so I was really looking forward to this month’s project.
It’s a fairly easy project and budget-friendly since the tray I am using was a clearance buy. So grab your crafting supplies and follow along as I show you how create this beautiful fall decor piece.
Supply list
- rectangular tray, I found mine on clearance at Dollar General
- calendar image
- Waverly chalk paint in the color plaster
- Mod Podge
- small paint brush
- Waverly antique wax
- small iron and parchment paper, optional
- various coordinating ribbons
- scissors
- faux greenery and embellishment
- hot glue gun
As you can see, the tray I am using is kinda cute already, but it just didn’t match my decor. So when I saw that it was on clearance at Dollar General, I knew I could create something CUTE with it.
My first step was to paint the whole tray with Waverly chalk paint in the color plaster. Any off-white acrylic paint would work too. I even painted the handles with the chalk paint.
After cutting down the calendar image to the right size, I applied a layer of Mod Podge to the tray. I then placed the image down, smoothing out as many wrinkles as I could.
Once the tray was dry, I used a small crafting iron and some parchment paper to smooth out any remaining wrinkles.
Then I painted some of the Waverly plaster paint around the edge of the image to help blend in with the tray. When the paint had dried, I lightly brushed some of the antique wax onto the image and tray. Oops! I didn’t get a good picture of this step.
It was time to embellish the tray with a bow, so I cut various lengths of ribbons and stacked them in a criss-cross pattern. Then I secured the ribbons in the center with a piece of wire.
To finish the tray, I glued the bow in the corner and added an embellishment in the center. The small wooden cut flower is from Dollar Tree and I thought it was a nice way to add a little EXTRA to the project.
Didn’t this project turn out SUPER cute? Such a fun and easy way to add fall decor to your home.
