Hello Sweet Friends,
For today’s DIY craft idea, I will be showing you one of the easiest ways to give an American flag that lovely rustic, antique look. For this DIY antique flag idea, I won’t be using the traditional tea or coffee to get the vintage/aged look. Instead I will using a product that I have used in many previous craft projects.
I just LOVE to decorate with flags for patriotic holidays, and for summer in general. And I like them even better if they have that antique and vintage look to them. If you would like to make some DIY antique flags for your home decor as well, follow along for a supply list and easy instructions for this project.
Supply list
- small American flags
- antique wax
- paint brush
- water

The four-pack of flags and the container of Waverly antique wax both were found at my local Walmart. (If you like the convenience of Amazon, here is my affiliate link for small American flags and my affiliate link for antique wax.)
Before starting, I made sure to lay down a drop cloth and gathered the rest of my supplies.

Next, I mixed some water with the antique wax on a paper plate. The I brushed the watered down wax onto the flag until I had the whole thing covered.

And, of course, I added some of the antique wax onto the sticks, too.

Once all of the flags were stained, I set them aside to dry. This is such an EASY project, I was finished in no time.
Here’s a before and after flag for comparison.

After drying, I displayed my DIY antique flags in a little white pitcher that I already had on hand. Doesn’t it LOOK fantastic! I just really like that vintage, antique look. Don’t you?

I hope you have found this tutorial useful and inspiring. And that you can use the idea to create something beautiful for your home.

Until next time…….. Happy crafting!
Pamela
