DIY Candleholder using Dollar Tree Fencing

You are here: Home / Budget-Friendly / DIY Candleholder using Dollar Tree Fencing

Hello Sweet Friends,
Today I have a CUTE little DIY craft project to share with you, using some of the Dollar Tree plastic fencing and a DT sign. I’ve had the fencing in my stash since last year and finally decided to craft with it. I’ve seen some other craftsy people create candleholders and thought a would give it a try too. I hope you like the results as much as I do.

Supply list

  • 2 pieces of Dollar Tree plastic fencing
  • small square sign (also from Dollar tree)
  • scissors and/or wire cutters
  • off-white chalk paint and paint brush
  • sandpaper or sand block
  • glue gun
  • off-white yarn or twine
  • newspaper or drop cloth

(I ended up using two sections of Dollar Tree fencing; and up cycled this Dollar Tree Easter sign for the base.)

Using scissors or wire cutters, cut the plastic fencing into four equal size panels, making sure to remove the spikes.

Sand any rough edges with sandpaper or a sanding block.

Paint the base with off-white paint, covering the inside and outside edges. Two coats should do the trick. (I used Waverly plaster chalk paint)

Then paint the four plastic fencing pieces with the same paint, making sure to paint both sides.

Two coats should give it good coverage. Allow to dry between coats.

For a distressed look, use sandpaper to “rough” up the fencing panels.

Time to assemble the candleholder! One at a time, glue each panel to the base. Allow glue to dry before going on to the next.

I should look something like this after you have glued all four panels.

To give the candleholder a more finished look, wrap twine at the top and bottom of each corner. Secure with glue.

I am so PLEASED with how this turned out!

The candleholder would match any decor! It’s PERFECT for everyday use or it could be jazzed up for different holidays.

For now I’ll just be using it for my kitchen table, but I’m already thinking of ways to use it for seasonal decor. How CUTE is this? I just LOVE it!!

I hope I’ve given you some inspiration to get CRAFTSY and create something beautiful for your home!

Happy Crafting!

Pamela

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
