Hello again, sweet friends,
Today’s craft idea is transforming a Dollar Tree sign into beautiful Christmas decor using an image from a gift bag and a few embellishments. I had this summer themed DT sign in my stash and I decided it would make a good Christmas makeover project.
The gift bag image was also in my stash left over from a previous craft idea and as it turned out was the perfect size for this project. Sometimes it just seems like things turn out exactly how they are supposed to, doesn’t it?
It may be difficult to duplicate this craft exactly since the gift bag was from a few years ago, but I hope it gives you an idea you can use to create something similar for yourself.
Follow along for the supply list and simple instructions.
Supply list
- DT sign
- sandpaper
- gift bag image
- white paint
- Mod Podge
- faux snow
- scissors
- glue gun
- embellishments
- small iron, optional

As you can see, the sign that I used for this makeover is the shape of a large hang tag. And the picture of the gift bag that I used is from the previous post, where I mounted the image onto a canvas. Check out that craft idea here.
The first step in this project was to sand away the glitter on the original sign. Then I gave it a couple coats of white paint. Waverly chalk paint in the color plaster was used, but any white acrylic paint will work. Once the paint was dry, I gave it a coating of Mod Podge and let that dry as well.

Using a small crafting iron and parchment paper, I ironed the gift bag image (already cut to size) onto the DT sign. You can see a faint line at the edge of the paper but I will take care of that with some Mod Podge and faux snow later.

For the next step, I tied a neutral bow and found some embellishment in my stash.

After glueing the bow to the top of the sign, I glued in some faux greenery, berries, and mini pinecones. At this point, the project was nearly finished.
Finishing up the DIY Christmas Decor
I didn’t get any pictures of the next step but I decided to add the words, All is calm, all is bright. So I printed them up, cut to size, and added it to the sign with some Mod Podge. Once it was dry I went on to the final step.
Using Mod Podge, I add faux snow to the sign, paying special attention to the edges of the paper. After added a simple hanger on the back, this crafty endeavor was finally finished! And LOOK how beautiful it turned out!

And another picture from a different angle.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this fun and thrifty little DIY Christmas decor idea. And I hope you’re inspired to create something beautiful for your home this holiday season.
Until next time……. Happy crafting!
Pamela
