Hello Sweet Friends,
Did you ever look at colorful cupcake liners and think, “Wow…. those would make beautiful flowers?” Well, I’m about to show you how to do just THAT! It’s so easy, and you can use any color or size cupcake liners you choose. I found some “fiesta” colored cupcake liners at the local Walmart and that’s what I used. Follow along to see just how easy it is.
What you will need for this project
- cupcake liners
- scissors
- stapler
To begin, separate out eight of the same color cupcake liners. Flatten out as much as possible, then fold in half.
And fold in half again.
Then cut along each side from the outer edge to where the crinkly part of the liner stops. Also make two more cuts evenly spaced in between the first two cuts, also cutting until the crinkly part of the liner stops. Make sure to cut through all eight liners. See picture.
Then, unfold all of the cupcake liners and flatten again. There should now be 12 separate “petals” on each cupcake liner.
Staple the center of the stack of cupcake liners. Then round off the outer part of each petal, cutting through all layers at the same time.
Using one layer at a time, begin to pull the cupcake liners up and pinch together in the middle.
Repeat this step with each layer; the center of the flower will continue to get fuller and fluffier with each layer.
After finishing, the flower should look something like this; almost like a carnation.
And the back will look like this.
I made flowers from all the different color cupcake liners in the package. I’ll admit that it was a little time-consuming but it was good practice and I had several flowers when I was finished. In fact, I had enough flowers to make a small wreath. I just hot glued the flowers to an 8” wire ring that I found at Dollar Tree. (Here’s what it looks like from the back)
And the front.
I added a small Day of the Dead sugar skull sign, to show how versatile the wreath could be.
How CUTE is this little wreath of cupcake liner flowers?! It really was easy, if a little time-consuming. I hope I’ve given you some inspiration to make some flowers of your own.
Happy Crafting!
