Hello Sweet Friends,

Today’s craft idea is an EASY decorative pillow created using Dollar Tree supplies. In fact, this project uses a minimal number of supplies, some of which you may already have on hand. I know you’re going to LOVE this idea.

I’ve had this Dollar Tree tote bag in my craft stash for a while; it just took me a while to decide what to create with it. The simple image on the canvas bag made it PERFECT for this project.

Like I said before, this project is super EASY and only uses a minimal number of supplies, some of which you may already have on hand. For the instructions and a supply list, read on.

Supply List

  • Dollar Tree tote bag
  • Polyfil or stuffing from a pillow
  • scissors
  • glue gun
  • iron, optional

That’s right! There’s only four items on the supply list, and one optional. How simple is that?

The tote bag is from Dollar Tree and the pillow from Dollar General. I had already used some of the stuffing for a previous project, but there was plenty of stuffing left for this DIY.

To begin this project, I cut the handles off of the tote bag.

Then I turned the top hem under and pressed lightly with a small iron.

Using my glue gun, I glued the two sides of the bag together, leaving enough space that my hand would fit through the opening.

Then I stuffed the pillow with the filling from a cheap pillow. There was enough stuffing in the pillow to use in two or three different projects. I just kept adding the filler until the pillow was nice and fluffy.

To finish off the throw pillow, I glued the opening closed with my glue gun, pressing the seams together until the glue had dried.

And LOOK how cute this decorative pillow turned out! And so EASY to make!

That was seriously the easiest DIY I have ever done. And I’ve seen other tote bags at my local Dollar Tree; now I want to make a bunch more of these pillows.

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
