Hello Craftsy Friends,
The DIY project I’m bringing you today is another budget-friendly Dollar Tree makeover using plastic Christmas Bells and Dollar Tree Christmas Trees. It’s a very easy project, although it is a little time-consuming. So follow along to see what I’ve created.
Supplies needed for this project
- three plastic Christmas bells from Dollar Tree
- length of large rope and smaller twine
- Two Dollar Tree Christmas trees
- other misc Christmas greens
- burlap ribbon, pipe cleaner
- pinecones
- white-flocked evergreen
- hammered bronze spray paint
- mod-podge. cinnamon, paint brush
- scissors, wire cutters, glue gun
Remove the decoration on the bells; then spray paint them inside and out with hammered bronze paint. Any kind of brown-tone paint will work. You are just trying to cover up the original color of the bells.
Apply a liberal coat of Mod-Podge to each bell; then sprinkle with cinnamon to cover.
After the Mod-podge and cinnamon have dried, apply another coat of Mod-podge to seal. Can you believe how good this looks? I’m going to have to try using this method again in the future. Also, it smells great while you’re working with it!
Run a knotted length of heavy rope up through the top of the bell.
Then wrap the smaller twine around the top of the bell, securing with hot glue.
Now that the bells are ready to go, it’s time to work on the swag.
Using two of the Dollar Tree Christmas trees, fluff them out on one side, then attach them together by just twisting the branches together. Discard the base and stands of the two trees.
Any other evergreen branches you would like to use can be added now. I had a few evergreen stems I added leftover from last year.
Tie a burlap bow, secure with a pipe cleaner or wire, and attach to the swag.
Also, attach a few long streamers to the swag.
Tie the three bells together, staggering the lengths of the rope. Then hang from the top of the swag. Add a few pine cones with hot glue.
At this point I thought I was finished, but then decided to add some white flocked stems into the swag.
I am very pleased with this project. I have it hanging on a blanket ladder and it looks just PERFECT!
I hope I’ve inspired you to use this method to in your crafting.
