Hello Friends,
It was a crafty kind of day at my home today and I’ve got a super cute and easy DIY garland to show you. It is a little more time-consuming that some of my other DIY ideas but certainly not difficult. You only need a few items and a little bit of time and you can create a fall fabric garland too.
Items needed for garland
- 4 “fat quarters” of coordinating fabrics
- twine
- wood beads, optional
- scissors

I purchased most of my fabric from Walmart. As you can see they sell fabric in the “fat quarter” size. The print fabric was purchased as a yard, so I just used a quarter of the fabric; a “fat quarter” approximately 18” X 22”.

I cut strips of fabric approximately 1 to 1 1/2 inches by 18 inches. I didn’t really measure, I just eyeballed it. I would fold the remaining fabric over so I would have a straight edge to go by.

I cut all four fabrics into strips the same way and I had 14 strips of each fabric when I was finished. I was ready to start tying the fabric to length of twine. I cut about a 6’ piece of twine to start with, which was a little long, but just remember you can always cut off what you don’t need when you are finished.
To attach the fabric strips to the twine, I started by making a loop, pictured below.

Bring the two ends of the fabric over the twine and through the loop as pictured below.

Pull the two ends of fabric until snugly around the twine. See below.

I repeated the last few steps for each strip of fabric and then added a bead.

I just kept adding fabric strips and beads in the same order until I ran out of fabric. The finished garland was about five feet long.

And I am just so pleased with this garland. I think it turned out super cute. I might just have to make one for every holiday/season.

The garland is so versatile, I easily was able to switch from a fall to Halloween mantel shelf without any problem.
I hope I’ve given you inspiration to make a garland for your home.
