Hello Sweet Friends,
Recently, I found some plush yarn at my local Dollar Tree. It is a muted orange/rust color and I knew I wanted to use it for some type of fall craft. Originally I was thinking some type of pumpkin craft, but in the end I decided to create a fall TASSEL! I had all the other supplies I needed in my craft stash, so this little project was very inexpensive to create. I hope you like it as much as I do! Tassels are such a FUN way to make any decor more PLAYFUL.
Supplies needed
- orange/rust plush yarn (Dollar Tree)
- other narrow ribbon of your choice
- waxed thread
- two large wood beads and several mini wood beads
- small embellishment
- square coaster
- scissors
- glue gun
If you wish to create a simple tassel, all you need is the orange plush yarn. But, of course, I always like to mix it up a little so I also added some narrow buffalo check ribbon, lace ribbon, and beads for this tutorial.
Begin by wrapping the yarn around a coaster (or other square item) forty times.
Using a length of the waxed thread, tie off one end of the yarn bundle.
Slide off of the coaster and cut the end of the tassel opposite of the waxed thread.
Add any other ribbons and tie with the thread to attach.
Wrap the tassel with a length of the plush yarn.
Add several mini beads to a strand of the waxed thread and add to the tassel. (OOPS! I should have added this when I added the ribbon)
Add two large beads to the top of the tassel.
Add a final embellishment with hot glue and the TASSEL is finished!!
I just LOVE how this tassel looks! A perfect piece to add to my fall decor. I think I’ll be making more of these.
I hope I’ve inspired you to get craftsy and create some decorative tassels for your home.
