DIY Fall Wreath with Owl

You are here: Home / Autumn / DIY Fall Wreath with Owl

Hello Sweet Friends,

HOOT, HOOT! Did you know October is Owl Month? I didn’t until recently, but it makes PERFECT sense. These nocturnal creatures are most active in the FALL, establishing their winter territories. And they make an ideal symbol for Halloween, being a creature of the night and naturally SPOOKY! With the OWL in mind, I have the CUTEST fall craft project for you today! It’s super EASY to create, and best of all, it was made using mostly Dollar Tree supplies. Follow along and OWL show you all just how easy it is to CREATE.

Supply list

  • willow wreath from DT
  • wooden owl from DT
  • assorted faux fall foliage, berries, pumpkins, and any fall embellishment desired
  • narrow ribbon
  • wire
  • brown and white paint
  • paint brush
  • glue gun
  • scissors
  • wire cutters

Begin this project by lightly painting the wreath with watered down brown paint. Allow to dry.

Paint the owl with the watery brown paint on front and sides. Once the brown paint has dried, apply white on top. The darker paint will show through the cut-outs.

After the paint has dried, attach the owl to the wreath using wire. Secure by wrapping the wire around the base and lower part of the wreath three or four times. Don’t worry too much about the wire showing because it will be covered up in the next few steps.

The owl fits perfectly in the willow wreath.

Using a glue gun, begin adding faux berries, foliages, pumpkins, and any other fall embellishment desired. I find it easier to add one thing at a time, working my way around the wreath. Then do the same with the next item. It might look like a hot mess at first, but keep going and it will look beautiful.

Keep adding until you are happy with how it looks. Make sure to use the foliage, ribbon, etc. to cover the wire and the base of the owl.

And, LOOK how cute this fall wreath turned out! HOO would have thought it?

I’m so pleased with how this turned out. I like it so much, I might try to make another one, only more Halloween-themed with blacks and oranges instead of neutrals. Wouldn’t that be CUTE, too?

I hope I’ve inspired you to create something similar for your home, for fall or Halloween.

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
