Hello everyone!
Today I’m sharing an easy patriotic craft with you. This little flag craft is perfect for a shelf sitter, tiered tray, or added to a wreath. It’s even easy enough for the kiddo’s to join in the fun. So gather up your craft supplies, plug in your glue gun and follow along.
Items you will need for your American Flag craft
- 5 X 7 stretched canvas from Dollar Tree
- assorted ribbons in red, white, and blue
- white buttons
- glue gun
- scissors
I like to use different sizes and textures of ribbon for this craft. I even added some ricrac too. You could even use strips of fabric along with the ribbon for this project.
I started with the blue portion of the flag, cut the blue sections of ribbon to size. I didn’t really measure; I just eyed it and cut the blue ribbons to a size that I thought looked good. I laid the ribbons on the canvas first to see how it looked, then glued them onto the canvas. I repeated this same process with the red and white ribbons. I cut them to size, then arranged them onto the canvas to see how it looked first. When I was satisfied with how it looked, then I glued the red and white ribbons. Some of the white canvas peeks through in places, but that’s ok. I also glued some of the small white pom-pom ribbon around the perimeter to give it a more finished look. Lastly, I glued some white buttons on the blue section for “stars.”
And here’s the finished flag. It was so simple and fun to make. Honestly, you could do different variations of this on any size canvas, even a larger size. The sky is the limit!
I hope I’ve inspired you to get creative and make you own Star-Spangled Banner! It will be the perfect addition to your patriotic decor, and just in time for the 4th of July!
Happy Crafting!
