Hello Friends
Most of my DIYs are related to home decor. But with Memorial Day coming up, I thought a DIY faux floral vase for the cemetery would be helpful for those of you who place memorial flowers on graves at the cemetery.
If you find yourself reading this blog post, you may have lost someone you love, and for that you have my sympathies. For me, creating florals to honor those who have passed can be very healing.
For the floral vase I created, I used faux red zinnias from Dollar Tree, but any colors and flowers may be used. I’ll also give you a few pro tips for creating cemetery florals.
Let’s get started.
Supply list
- faux florals and foliages
- small piece of floral foam
- few rocks/pebbles
- ribbon (medium width)
- wire (one stem 18 or 20 gauge)
- scissors
- wire cutters
- serrated knife
- glue gun (optional)
- flag (optional)
Florals, foliages, cemetery vase, and foam were all from Dollar Tree. Most items can be found at any craft store.
Place a few stones/rocks in the bottom of the cone for extra weight. This will help keep the vase in place at the cemetery if it is windy. Cut a small block of foam to place in the top of the cemetery vase. Use a serrated knife for best results.
Wedge or glue the block of foam into the vase.
Place two bushes/bundles of flowers directly into the center of the foam. No need to cut into individual stems.
Fluff and shape the florals into a pleasing shape.
Using wire cutters, separate the foliage into individual stems. Add around the base of the flowers. I used one foliage bush/bundle.
Tie a bow and secure with a heavy wire (18 or 20 gauge). Add bow by inserting wire “stem” into foam. I had to split my ribbon into a narrower strips because it’s what I had on hand. Medium width ribbon works best for this size vase.
The final step is adding a small American flag, if desired.
I think this floral cemetery vase is a beautiful way to honor your loved ones who have passed. And I hope you find this tutorial helpful in creating some of your own vases.
