Hello Sweet Friends,
I have a new craft idea for you today; I guess I would say it’s a Valentine craft although it could also be considered more of an everyday craft by some. I used only things I already had on hand; some Dollar Tree items, some Walmart items, and even a freebie frame from my aunt. I wasn’t even sure I would create a blog post about it because I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but I just love the finished piece. And I hope you do too.
Supplies needed
- Frame 11 X 14
- foam board (and knife to cut it)
- MacKenzie-Childs courtly check paper napkins
- Dollar Tree aluminum cookie tray
- heart and angel wings pattern
- a few Jenga blocks
- Mod Podge
- paints – white, brown, and red
- scissors, glue gun, paint brush
I’ll begin with the frame and background for this project. The frame was a freebie from my aunt and I took out the glass and painted it with Waverly off-white chalk paint. Then I cut a piece of foam board to fit the frame and attached a paper napkin to it with Mod-Podge. I removed the back layer of the napkin before applying it to the foam board. When everything was dry, I glued the foam board into the frame.
To create the wings and heart, I used a free pattern I found online, and cut them out of an aluminum cookie tray from the Dollar Tree. I painted the wings with Waverly off-white chalk paint, and also used some antique wax for shading. I painted the heart with Waverly red chalk paint and used the antique wax for shading on it too. I didn’t get many pictures of the process because I got so engrossed in what I was doing.
I glued some of the Jenga blocks to the back of the wings and heart before attaching them to the frame. It gave the finished project a more 3-D look. Like I said before, I wasn’t very sure of how this would turn out, but I just LOVE the finished piece.
What do you think about this? I’d love to get your feedback!
I hope I’ve inspired you to create something similar for your home. Wishing you a beautiful day!
