Hello Sweet Friends,
Back in the spring I shared an Easter DIY project that was really popular, so I decided to create something similar for autumn. It’s an easy, budget-friendly project that I’m sure you will love! So gather up your craft supplies and let’s jump right in.
Items needed for this project
- silver tray from Dollar Tree
- wooden pumpkin, also from Dollar tree
- letters
- MacKenzie Childs or buffalo check napkin
- assorted ribbons, twine and accessories
- spanish moss
- Mod Podge
- white chalk paint, orange chalk paint, antique wax
- paint brushes, glue gun, scissors, wirecutters
I began this project by painting the entire surface of the silver tray with white chalk paint. It took two coats for full coverage.
Then I painted the back side of the pumpkin with orange. Even though it was already orange, I wanted a little different shade of orange that wasn’t as bright. I used Waverly chalk paint appropriately named pumpkin.
Then I lightly brushed the tray and the pumpkin both with some antique wax for a slightly aged, distressed look. On the tray I only brushed around the outer area.
Next, I cut the napkin to fit the inside of the tray and separated the two layers. Using only the top layer I Mod Podged the napkin to the tray. After it dried, I applied a second layer of Mod Podge.
The lettering I chose to use is called thickers, found at Walmart. They are puffy silver letters with adhesive on the back. I cut apart the letters I wanted to use, “hello fall”, and sprayed with black spray paint while still attached to the backing paper.
When the black paint was dry, I attached the letters to the pumpkin. Any type of letters could be used for this. Or you could use a Cricut machine to cut them out. Or maybe a stencil and paint.
At this point, I was ready to decorate the pumpkin. I made a messy bow out of strips of varying ribbons to attach. Then glued some berries, greenery, etc. Sometimes I get a little carried away and don’t know when to stop. But I think this looks pretty good.
The final step was to glue the pumpkin to the tray. I used plenty of glue so it would be more secure, then added a little Spanish moss to the base. I also glue a piece of twine at the edge of the napkin, around the perimeter of the inner tray.
How cute is this little fall sign? I just love it! It’s a super cute addition to my fall decor this year. I hope I’ve given you a little inspiration to create something similar for your home.
I just LOVE buffalo check, so I’m totally crushing on this!
