DIY Inspirational Sign

You are here: Home / Budget-Friendly / DIY Inspirational Sign

Hello friends,

Today’s craft is created from things I’ve had in my craft stash for a while. Sometimes I get a little carried away with myself at the Dollar Tree (and other craft stores) and my craft room starts to look a little cluttered as a result. So I look around, and try to create something beautiful from what I already have. Follow along to see this awesome little project!

Items you will need for this project

  • three Dollar Tree fall skinny signs
  • Dollar Tree peel and stick wall creation quote
  • E6000 and/or glue gun
  • Waverly plaster chalk paint
  • Waverly antique wax
  • paint brush
  • scissors
I bought these little signs last fall. It shouldn’t be too long before we start seeing fall items at the Dollar Tree, so grab some if you want to make a sign like this!

The first step in this project is to glue the tree skinny signs together. Hot glue would probable do the trick just fine, but I decided to also use E6000 and let it dry overnight before I continued. I lined up the signs as straight as possible.

Then I painted the front and sides with Waverly plaster chalk paint. I took three coats for complete coverage.

Adding some streaks of the Waverly antique wax gave it an aged, distressed look. I made sure to use the antique wax on the sides of the sign, too.

I’m already loving the way this looks. After the wax has dried, the final step is to apply the peel & stick quote to the sign. I cut the quote into three separate sections and laid them on the sign to see how it would look and to make sure the quote would fit.

Yay! The sign was the perfect size for the quote. These Dollar Tree stickers are very easy to use. All that was left was to remove the backing and apply the inspirational quote to the sign. I didn’t really measure anything, I just eyeballed it and centered each piece the best that I could.

I just love how this looks! And it’s so easy to display; the sign is free-standing because of its width. Honestly this was such an easy project. If it wasn’t for waiting for glue and paint to dry, it probably would have only taken 15 minutes to complete.

I hope I’ve given you a little inspiration today!
God Bless!

Happy Crafting!

Pamela

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
