Hello Sweet Friends,
I find my thoughts turning toward summer lately and that is reflected in my craft and DIY projects. Today I have the CUTEST bee skep DIY for you. It is created out of a leftover plastic Easter egg and some twine. Add a few accessories and there you have it!! So gather around as I show you how easy it is to create a mini bee skep.
Supply list
- one (or two) large plastic Easter egg(s)
- spool of twine
- faux floral, foliage, bee, ribbon, or other embellishment
- scissors
- glue gun
- black paint and small brush
Separate the top of the plastic egg from the bottom. Only the top piece will be used for this DIY project. If the egg is a very bright color, you may want to paint it white or a neutral color just in case the color peeks through the twine.
I actually used two tops stacked together because I wanted a little extra height. I can’t help but think that the old plastic egg packaging for L’eggs pantyhose would have been perfect for this project, but I must use what I have on hand.
Glue the twine to the egg, beginning at the bottom the egg and spiraling the twine around, adding glue as needed.
Continue glue the twine to the egg, round and round working upward. Try to glue each row of twine as close as possible to the previous row.
When you get to the top, cut the twine and glue securely at the top. Then cut a short length of twine and create a loop. Attach the loop to the top of the skep with hot glue.
Paint a small black circle to the bee skep using acrylic paint. Allow to dry.
Cut another short length of twine and glue around the “opening” of the bee skep.
Oh my gosh! This mini bee skep is SO CUTE! Isn’t it?
Time to add a few embellishments. A piece of ribbon, a few florals, a sprig of foliage, and a cute little bee…. equals ADORABLE!
Isn’t this just the CUTEST! I’m loving it. It could be displayed on a tiered tray, windowsill, shelf, or in any bee-themed vignette. So many possibilities.
I hope I’ve given you a fun and inspiring idea for a DIY craft for spring, summer or anytime of the year! Until next time….
