Hello Sweet Friends,
Today’s craft idea is such a fun little project; at least I think that it is and I hope you will too. I will be showing you how to create colorful mushroom decor using supplies from Dollar Tree. The finished decor pieces are perfect for summer decor and so darn CUTE!

Creating sweet little decor like these mushrooms for your home doesn’t have to break the bank, especially if you can make it yourself from items from Dollar Tree. So follow along and see just how easy and budget-friendly it is to make DIY mushroom decor.

Supply list

  • DT mini cordial glasses (6 pc)
  • DT mini round bowls (6 pc)
  • white acrylic paint
  • red acrylic paint
  • paint brush
  • glue gun
  • E600 glue
  • Optional items: container, foam, foliage, other embellishment

So, to begin this project, remove the glasses and bowls from the packaging and place them on a drop cloth or newspaper. Paint the cordial glasses (mushroom stems) with white paint. Then you will paint the bowls (mushroom tops with red paint. For good coverage, it took three coats with dry time in between.

I used Apple Barrel paint from Walmart, but it probably would have been quicker and easier to use spray paint. But once I had started, I was committed so I kept going.

This is what they looked like after one coat, so you can probably see why the spray paint may have worked better.

After the three coats of paint had dried, I painted white spots onto the mushroom tops. The spots were all different sizes by the time I finished, but I thought they were looking pretty good.

Once the paint had dried, it was time to assemble the mushrooms. Using a combination of hot glue and E6000, I added the spotted mushroom tops to the stems.

And, oh my gosh, look how cute they turned out! How ADORABLE are these little fun guys?! (ha ha, see what I did there?)

Let’s Style our Mushroom Decor

At this time, the mushrooms were finished, but I couldn’t stop there. I had to embellish, arrange, and display them in different ways. LOOK how cute they look in a pot with a few embellishments. The mini clay pots are are also from Dollar Tree, painted white. I added a small piece of floral foam and some foliage. The final touch was a small bumble bee. (here’s my Amazon affiliate link for the bees if you are interested: https://amzn.to/4j8iBWk)

I also thought a grouping of three mushrooms would look nice. See what you think.

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
