Hello Sweet Friends,
Today, I am sharing a DIY paper cupcake liner rose craft idea. If you have been following me for very long, you know that I LOVE flowers. And if I get a chance to share a flower craft with you all, I will jump at the chance.
In the past, I have shared a few other DIY flowers made from cupcake liners: DIY colorful cupcake liner flowers and DIY peppermint carnations. These two tutorials were for carnation-type flowers, but this new tutorial will be for a rose instead. I think they turned out so pretty and I hope you do too.
Read ahead for a supply list and step-by-step instructions to create some roses of your very own.
Supply List for Paper Cupcake Liner Rose
- paper cupcake liners, three per rose
- scissors
- glue gun
- small wooden dowel or skewer
- optional, paint to color the roses, if desired

For this DIY paper cupcake liner rose project, I used white cupcake liners (from Michael’s) and dyed/colored them lightly with some Waverly antique wax diluted with water. But any color cupcake liner could be used.
Cupcake liners can be found at nearly any store, but if you prefer to have them delivered directly to your door, here is my Amazon affiliate link for 500 cupcake liners, available in white or many other colors: https://amzn.to/4kj7N8r

To begin this project, I counted out three cupcake liners and flattened them out as much as I could.

At this point, I didn’t like the little ridges left on the edges. So I thought it would be a good idea to get them wet and smooth out all of the wrinkles. While they were wet, I added some of the antique wax to lightly color them. Then let them dry overnight. This was actually what took the most time out of the entire project.

For the next step, I folded each of the liners in half, and then in half again. After folding the liners in half a final time, I moved on to the next step. See picture below for a visual.

With scissors, I cut a petal shape on the rounded edge of the folded cupcake liner; cutting through all of the layers. Then I cut a small piece off of the pointed end. When the cupcake liner was opened up, it sort of looked like a flower with eight petals. See below.

Once you have unfolded all three cupcake liners it will look like the picture below.

Using scissors again, I cut one petal out of the first cupcake liner, a two-petal section from the second liner, and a three-petal section out of the third liner.

Assembling the Paper Cupcake Liner Rose
I took the single petal and rolled it up to create the center of the rose, securing it with a little glue.

Then I loosely rolled the two-petal section around the center rolled petal. It was also secured with a dab of hot glue.

After the center of the rose was ready, I moved on to the larger pieces. I took the “flower” with six petals and ran a line of glue along one edge and glued the other edge of a petal to it; creating a cupped flower.

I repeated this step with the remaining parts of the flower. When I was finished with this step, I had five pieces ready to be assembled. See second picture below.

Starting with the largest piece (with 7 petals), I placed a few dabs of glue near the center of the flower. Then I placed the next largest piece (with 6 petals) into the center.

I repeated the same step, glueing the flower pieces together, gluing the next smaller piece in the middle.

After glueing the center piece in place, the rose was completely assembled.

Let’s Finish Up this Project
As you can see, the rose was almost finished. All that was left to do was to curl back the petals a little. I did this by wrapping each petal around a stick similar in size to a skewer.

I curled each petal except for the very center of the rose. When this step was finished, the rose was also finished. And look how BEAUTIFUL this paper rose turned out. It almost looks REAL.

Once I got started making these roses, I just could not stop. I whipped out about a half dozen of them in no time at all.

These roses turned out so pretty, I just couldn’t resist sharing a few more snapshots.

And a few MORE!

My excitement to share this idea made me skip adding stems to the roses. That will have to wait for another post. I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and it will inspire you to create something pretty for your home.
Until next time…… Happy crafting!
Pamela
