DIY Popsicle Stick Stars

You are here: Home / Budget-Friendly / DIY Popsicle Stick Stars

Hello Sweet Friends,

Oh my STARS! I have the EASIEST and CUTEST craft project for you today; DIY popsicle stick stars. It’s also very budget-friendly. And simple enough for kids, although you might have to swap out the hot glue gun for some Elmer’s glue.

The popsicle stick stars that I created have a patriotic theme (red, white, and blue), but they could be painted any color for any season. I might even have to try painting some with glow-in-the-dark paint; wouldn’t that look COOL?

Come gather ‘round my craft table for the simple instructions for creating stars out of popsicle sticks.

Supply list

  • package of popsicle/craft sticks (I got mine at Dollar Tree, 60 per pack)
  • wooden skewers or small dowel rods
  • hot glue gun
  • red, white, and blue paint
  • paint brush

Five popsicle or craft sticks are needed per star. So this package of 60 would be enough to create twelve stars. So count out five of the craft sticks and move on to the next step.

There was a little bit of trial and error with this step, but once I got the hang of it, it was quick work. I took two of the sticks and glued them together in a V-shape. Getting the angle right was the hardest part. I placed the five sticks into a star pattern and used that as a guide for angle. To create one star, 2 V’s and 1 single popsicle stick are needed.

For the next step I glue the two V-shapes together as pictured below.

The glue in the final stick to form a star!

Painting the stars is the next step. As you can see, I painted mine with red, white, and blue paint. It took two coats with dry time in between.

Glue a skewer or small dowel rod onto the back of the stars, if desired. I will probably paint the backs of the stars; I just didn’t get it done before I posted.

It’s official. I’m STARSTRUCK! I just love how these stars turned out. They can be added to most any plant or arrangement for that little something extra.

You can see here that I have added them to another patriotic DIY project that I created.

I hope that I have inspired you with this fun little idea; to be used for a decor idea in your home.

Until next time……

Happy Crafting!

Pamela

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
