DIY Rope Tray

You are here: Home / Budget-Friendly / DIY Rope Tray

Hello Sweet Friends,
I’ve got a super easy DIY craft idea for you today! A rope tray created mostly with items found at the Dollar Tree. I’ve seen similar woven trays sell for $15 and up, but this tray will cost less than half of that. Follow along and see how easy it is to make.

Supply list

  • package of Dollar Tree burner covers
  • 5 packages of Dollar Tree rope
  • glue gun
  • white spray paint (optional)
  • twine or wire (optional)

The first step is really optional. The image on the burner cover would not show because it will be on the bottom of the tray, but I chose to paint it white with spray paint. Paint outside or somewhere with good ventilation.

When the paint has dried, begin glueing the rope onto the burner cover, beginning at the outer edge working your way inwards. When you use up one package of rope, then add in the next. When you get to the center, cut the rope and secure in the center with glue.

Beginning at the outer edge again, glue the rope around, then up and over the edge and back down the outside of the burner cover. Add in new lengths of rope as needed.

Cut two pieces of rope for handles; about 6 inches each. To help secure the cut edges of the rope and keep them from raveling, wrap with wire or twine and secure with glue. (I used some rustic wire from Amazon and it worked well) Glue the handles onto the tray on opposite sides.

And look how CUTE this tray turned out! I’m so pleased with it.

I feel like this little tray can be used for so many different things. It would be perfect for a bathroom or kitchen counter; a coffee table or kitchen table; the sky is the limit! How would you use it in your home?

I hope I’ve given you some inspiration to create something beautiful for your home.

Happy Crafting!

Pamela

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
