DIY Silk Rose Ball/Pomander

You are here: Home / Budget-Friendly / DIY Silk Rose Ball/Pomander

Hello Friends,

Recently I wrote a blog post about easily creating mini rose balls/pomanders for home, party, and wedding decor. Today I will show you how to create a larger size rose ball/pomander; for weddings, some refer to these as kissing balls. Although I use mine more for home decor, they make beautiful wedding and party decor, and can be made way in advance of the event. So without further delay, let’s get right to it.

Supplies needed for 6” Silk Rose Pomander or Kissing Ball

  • 3 or 4 silk rose bushes with 6 blooms each
  • 1 round styrofoam ball 2.4”(60 mm)
  • glue gun
  • ribbon, optional
I found the rose bushes and styrofoam ball at Dollar Tree

Begin by removing the rose blooms from the stems. No need to cut, just pull the blooms off of the stem. Poke a small hole in the styrofoam with the base of one of the rose blooms. Then put a tiny amount of hot glue on the base and reinsert into the “pilot” hole. If you use too much hot glue, it reacts with the styrofoam in a weird way and takes forever to cool. The base of the rose should rest against the styrofoam.

Keep adding roses; first creating a “pilot hole” and using a small amount of hot glue each time.

Make sure the roses are close together, so the white styrofoam does not show through.

Keep adding rose blooms until all of the styrofoam is covered. If desired, glue a loop of ribbon to the rose pomander. And you are FINISHED!

Here’s a comparison between the mini rose balls and the regular size. Perfect to use for Valentine decor.

I also created a larger size using a 3.8 inch styrofoam ball and 7 bushes of silk off-white roses.

I used the same technique to add the roses.

Kissing balls can be created in many different colors and sizes. Pictured below is a comparison shot of the three different sizes I made.

  • 8″ Rose Ball using a 3.8” styrofoam ball and 7 silk rose bushes
  • 6” Rose Ball using a 2.4” styrofoam ball and 3-4 silk rose bushes
  • mini rose ball using 1 silk rose bush

I think the silk rose ball/pomanders turned out so beautifully. I really love using them in with my Valentine decor.

I hope I’ve inspired you to create Rose Pomanders for your home or wedding decor. Create them in all sizes and colors.

Happy Crafting!
XOXO

Pamela

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
