Hello Friends,
Today’s DIY idea, created from a Dollar Tree wooden anchor cut-out, may not be a unique decor piece on its own, but it makes a great ACCENT piece for any coastal decor. It’s SUPER easy to make and if you don’t count waiting for paint to dry, it takes NO time at all. I’ve had the anchor in my crafting stash for a while and couldn’t decide what to do with it. So I decided sometimes the simplest ideas can be the BEST ideas, and created a simple decor piece. Follow along to see the simple steps I took to jazz up this Dollar Tree anchor.
Supply list
- Dollar Tree wooden anchor cut-out
- Dollar Tree nautical rope
- white and brown paint
- paint brush
- scissors
- glue gun
The first step was to paint a base coat of white paint. I used Waverly plaster chalk paint, but any white acrylic will do. I painted two coats, letting it dry between coats.
The next step was to water down some brown paint and lightly brush around the edges of the anchor. I used Waverly antique wax, but any brown acrylic paint will work.
I didn’t think I had enough brown shading so I added more along the edges of the anchor. Then I cut a length of nautical rope and twined it around the anchor in a pleasing pattern until I was happy with the way it looked. I glue the the rope in place with my hot glue gun on the back side of the anchor. See picture below.
At first I thought the anchor was a little plain but then decided it made the PERFECT accent piece in a coastal vignette. I was REALLY pleased with how it looks in a grouping.
The anchor just POPS when displayed with other nautical/coastal items. I’m thrilled with how it turned out and LOVE the way it looks. I hope you like it too!
I hope I’ve inspired you to create some coastal decor for your home this summer.
