Hello Sweet Friends,
Today, I’m going to MAKEOVER some of those large Christmas ball ORNAMENTS from Dollar Tree. They come in several different colors. But I was looking for a specific color that they didn’t have, so I thought I could just make-over a few of them for my Christmas TREE this year. The color I was looking for was ivory or an off-white color of some kind. Plus I wanted to jazz them up a little bit, and give them a more elegant look. So follow along to see how I transformed some cheap plastic ball ornaments into simply beautiful ones.
Supplies needed
- Large Christmas ball ornament from Dollar Tree
- off-white spray paint and/or chalk paint
- Mod-podge
- paint brush
- iridescent glitter and/or faux snow
- ribbon
- berries, foliage, or other embellishment
- glue gun
- scissors

My initial plan was just to spray paint the ornaments with ivory paint, which I did. It took about three coats, which worked well on the silver ornaments but on the red ones, some of the old color bled through.

Chalk paint to the rescue! I painted each ornament with a coat of Waverly plaster chalk paint. On the red ones, I had to apply a second coat for good coverage.

When the paint had dried, I added glitter and faux snow to the tops of the ornament with Mod Podge. It tends to dry fast, especially if it is a light coat, so I had to work fast. A few times I had to add extra Mod Podge.

Then I gathered up my ribbon, berries, and other embellishments for the ornaments. I tied a simple bow with my ribbon. And snipped a few pieces of foliage and berries. Plugged in my hot glue gun too!

When adding the embellishments, I tried to center between the “seams” of the ornament ball. I glued the bow on first, then added the other embellishments. And…. BAM!….FINISHED!

I wasn’t sure how these would turn out but I just LOVE them! I wanted to add some ivory to my Christmas tree this year, and these are going to be PERFECT!

These plastic Dollar Tree ornaments could be made over with any color. It’s so EASY to dress them up a bit and give them a more elegant LOOK. What color would go with your decor?

I hope I’ve inspired you with this little makeover. And as always…..
Happy Crafting!

Merry Christmas!

Beautiful. Where did you get the ribbon
I found it at Walmart in the Christmas gift wrap supplies. Any narrow ribbon would work for this craft. Happy Crafting!
*EDIT It was with the mini Christmas tree decor.
