Hey BOO!
I hope you’re ready for a CUTE little Halloween craft today. Most of my supplies for this came from Dollar Tree, so it’s a very budget-friendly project. I love crafting for Halloween, but I really only decorate for a few days, so for me, budget-friendly is the way to go for my projects. I leave my fall decor out much longer, even through Thanksgiving, but the strictly Halloween things are only out for a few days. This little not-so-spooky haunted house project was super EASY and FUN to make. I hope you enjoy!
Supply list
- pumpkin-shaped sign from Dollar Tree
- small haunted house from DT
- felt Halloween stickers from DT
- 4 Jenga blocks (or tumbling tower blocks from DT)
- spanish moss
- various ribbons and button for a bow
- orange, black, and yellow paint and paint brush
- glue gun
The sign I used had the metal word Blessed on it and I removed it. I think I got the sign last year but never got around to crafting with it, so it was the perfect choice for this project. The small DT haunted house had a base to it that I carefully removed.
The first step for this craft is to paint the pumpkin sign with orange paint. I used Waverly pumpkin chalk paint from Walmart but any orange acrylic paint will do.
While waiting for the orange paint to dry, I moved on to the haunted house.
Paint the haunted house and the Jenga blocks with black paint. I used Waverly chalk paint in the color INK, but any acrylic black paint will do.
Switch back to the pumpkin, which should be dry, and add some yellow and orange paint to add a little texture to the pumpkin. You may skip this step and leave the pumpkin a solid orange, if desired.
Paint the pumpkin stem black.
When the haunted house and the four Jenga blocks are dry, glue the four blocks to the back of the house. Then glue the house to the pumpkin sign slightly off-center.
I got the felt halloween stickers last year, but I believe they are available every year.
When adding the ghosts to the haunted house, I chose to glue them rather than using the peel off back because the sticky back side would be partially exposed.
When adding the bats, peel off the back and press into place.
Add spanish moss along the bottom of the pumpkin with hot glue. Trim the moss, if desired.
Add the pumpkin with hot glue. I added another ghost peeking out from behind the house too!
Create a bow using a variety of ribbons; stacking several ribbon strips and securing in the middle. Trim the ribbon strips.
Glue the bow to the pumpkin stem, and add a button in the center.
When I started this project, I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but I have to say I am very PLEASED with the results. How CUTE did this turn out? I love how the pumpkin becomes a MOON background for the not-so-spooky haunted house.
I hope I’ve inspired you with this FUN little ghost of an idea for Halloween. Happy Crafting!
