Dollar Tree Icicle Vase Tutorial

You are here: Home / 10 Minute Crafts / Dollar Tree Icicle Vase Tutorial

Hello Friends,
For today’s project I will be showing you how to create an icicle vase using DT supplies. It really is a simple but beautiful project. And it is so EASY to create!

Only a minimal amount of supplies are needed, so it is very budget-friendly as well as beautiful.
So without delay, let’s get to it!

Supply list

  • DT cylinder vase
  • one or two 10-pack of smaller DT icicle ornaments
  • one 8-pack of DT larger icicle ornaments
  • wire cutters or snips
  • glue gun
  • Mod Podge, optional
  • faux snow and/or iridescent glitter, optional

My first step for this DIY was to remove the round loop from the top of all of the icicles. I did this by very gently snipping off the loop with my snub-nose wire cutters.

After all the icicles were ready, I simply began glueing the icicles to the vase one by one. I glued them upside down, where the widest part of the icicle was at the bottom of the vase with the tip of the icicle pointing toward the top of the vase.

I made sure to alternate between the shorter and longer icicles, creating a pattern that I thought was pleasing. The two packages of icicles covered the entire vase fairly well.

At this point, I could have been finished. But I decided to open up another pack of the smaller icicles and add a few more to the vase. I added another icicle anywhere on the vase where I thought there was a gap; sometimes, stacking the icicles.

Once I was happy with how the icicles looked, I decided to add some faux snow and iridescent glitter to the base of the icicles where I had snipped off the loop. I thought this would help to soften the look a little. After brushing on some Mod Podge, I sprinkled on some of the faux snow and glitter, shaking off any loose particles.

And I think this icicle vase turned out so BEAUTIFUL!! I actually think is looks better as a candle holder than a vase. Of course, it would be just as beautiful full of flowers.

How BEAUTIFUL is this vase? This is SERIOUSLY one of the quickest and easiest projects I have worked on in a long time. I hope you like it as much as I do!

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
