Dollar Tree Neutral Valentine Craft

You are here: Home / Budget-Friendly / Dollar Tree Neutral Valentine Craft

Hello Sweet Friends,

Not everyone decorates for Valentines Day; in fact, I would guess that very few people do. So I think this neutral Valentine craft is a great way to have a piece of heart decor that can be displayed for more that just February 14. And best of all, it is made with mostly Dollar Tree supplies so it is also very budget-friendly.

I’ve had some spindles in my craft stash for quite a while and thought they would be perfect for this project. Add a few Dollar Tree supplies, and BAM, I had myself some pretty cute neutral Valentine decor.

Below, you will find a supply list and instructions for this EASY craft idea. So, let’s get to it!

Supply list

  • spindle
  • 8 tumbling blocks from DT
  • DT wall tile
  • wood skewer or dowel
  • DT wood heart ornament
  • DT florals
  • ribbons and buttons (optional)
  • white paint
  • brown paint
  • paint brush
  • E6000 glue
  • glue gun
  • scissors

To begin this project, I first got the spindle base together. As with my previous post, I used 8 DT tumbling blocks glued together as shown above. Also, I had my husband cut the spindle to size and drill a hole in the top.

Next, I moved onto the heart. I created a heart-shaped template and used it to draw onto the wall tile. Then I cut it out.

Using Waverly chalk paint in the color plaster, I painted the heart, spindle, and base. Then added a little Waverly antique wax to give the project an antique look. I also painted a skewer and a small heart ornament from DT with the same paint but did not get a picture of them.

Once the paint had dried, I glued everything together with a combination of hot glue and E6000.

Finishing the Neutral Valentine Craft

This little Valentine decor piece is really starting to look GOOD. It just needs a little bit of embellishment. So I tied a couple bows, found some buttons; then glued them onto project.

And LOOK how cute this project turned out! I mean, how stinkin’ CUTE is that?

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
