Hello Sweet Friends,
Here I am with another craft idea that won’t break the bank; a Dollar Tree Spoon Snowflake DIY. I’ve seen different variations of creating snowflakes with plastic spoons, but my DIY snowflake was inspired by the Tip Junkie. But I decided to put my own spin on it!
There are very few items on the supply list for this project. And it takes very little time to create! Once I got started, I wanted to make several of them, but I only bought supplies for one. So I’ll have to get back to Dollar Tree soon.
Follow along for the easy instructions to make this fun little snowflake.
Supply list
- 2 packs of Dollar Tree plastic spoons
- small embellishment, optional
- glue gun
- glitter or faux snow, optional
- Mod Podge, optional
As I said above, you will need two packages of spoons (48 per pack) from Dollar Tree. Sixty spoons were used to make this snowflake, so you will have quite a few leftover spoons.
The first step for this project was to glue three spoons together. I applied a small amount of glue to the bottom of the handle and a small amount to the rounded part of the spoon, then pressed the second spoon to it. Repeat for the third spoon. You can see what the set of three should look like in the right photo below.
I just kept gluing the three-spoon bundles together until I had 20 of them.
Then I began glueing two sets of spoons together, applying the glue to the handle of the spoon. This gave me a total of 10 groups of 6 spoons each. See photo below for what each bundle/group should look like.
Before assembling the final snowflake, I arrange the spoon bundles to see how they fit together and to see what it would look like.
Then I glued two of the 6-spoon bundles together giving me a total of five 12-spoon bundles.
At this point, I just started glueing each spoon bundle to the next in a circle/snowflake pattern. I only put glue at the base of the spoons and the tops of the spoons where they touched. Once I had all of the spoons glued together, I added a small ornament in the center.
I added a small circle of cardboard to the bottom for more stability, but I’m not sure it was necessary.
After the glue was set, I decided to add some iridescent glitter to the edges of the snowflake. I did this using Mod Podge. I made sure to shake off the excess. I also added a little tinsel around the small ornament in the center of the snowflake.
Oh my gosh, LOOK how cute this turned out! And I just can’t believe how easy it was to create.
I hope I’ve inspired you to give this DIY a try. It was very easy and budget-friendly AND it turned out so CUTE! You can hang it or use it as a shelf sitter.
Until next time….
Happy Crafting!
