Hello Sweet Friends,
The project that I am sharing with you today is a Dollar Tree wall tile ornament DIY. It is created using a Dollar Tree wood ornament cut-out, and a, you guessed it, DT wall tile.
I just love using the DT wall tiles in my craft ideas. They seem to add a vintage or antique vibe to almost any project, but for a fraction of the cost of the real thing.
Follow along for the instructions on how to make this piece of Christmas decor. I hope you like it as much as I do.
Supply list
- DT wood ornament cut-out
- DT wall tile
- ribbon and Christmas embellishment
- pen or marker
- scissors
- glue gun
- Waverly chalk paint, color plaster and Waverly antique wax
- twine or ribbon for hanger
To begin this project, I simply traced the ornament onto the wall tile. I find that using the back side of the wall tile is easier than the front because it is a flatter surface. After I cut the design out, I simply discard the peeled-off back layer.
Then I glued the wall tile onto the ornament cut-out, and trimmed any uneven edges.
It was then time to paint the ornament. I chose my favorite paint again for this project, Waverly chalk paint in the color plaster. It took two coats to get good coverage with dry time in between.
And then to give it a more vintage vibe, I lightly brushed some Waverly antique wax onto the piece. I just love how this is LOOKING at this point.
Now the ornament was ready for some embellishments. I tied a dark red bow and glued it on, along with some faux foliage and berries. Then I also glued a ribbon loop for a hanger on the back.
The project was nearly finished at this point, but I decided to add something else that I found in Dollar Tree; a lovely little ivory colored rose. Can you believe it was found in the Halloween craft supplies?
And VOILA! How beautiful did this ornament turn out? I am just LOVING it!
Deep red and ivory are not traditional colors for Christmas, but somehow I just LOVE how they look in this piece.
I hope you love this project as much as I do and that you’re able to use this idea to create something beautiful for your home this Christmas.
Until next time….
Happy Crafting!
And Merry Christmas!
