Hello Sweet Friends,
Today’s craft idea is an Easter makeover of a thrift store sign. I will show you how I took a thrifted fish sign and transformed it into a beautiful piece of Easter decor.

When I spotted this fish sign at a thrift store, I knew it had “good bones” so I grabbed it. I love the oval shape and the wicker trim, but not really fond of the fish design. At first, I did not have any particular project in mind, but eventually decided to create an Easter craft with it.
Follow along for a supply list and instructions on how I created this piece. I hope you like it as much as I do.
Supply list
- Thrift store oval sign
- printable or other image
- Waverly chalk paint in the color drop cloth
- paintbrush and water
- Mod Podge
- ribbon
- spring/Easter embellishments
- glue gun
- small crafting iron
- parchment paper
I began this project by painting the entire sign with off-white paint. It took a couple of coats with dry time in between. The chalk paint gives very good coverage.

For the next step I needed to trim down the printable that I was using. Instead of cutting the image with scissors, I used a paint brush dipped in water to outline the picture. Once the water had soaked into the paper, it was EASY to gently tear away the excess.

Below is what the image looked like after I had it the size and shape that I wanted.

Now it was time to get out my handy jar of Mod Podge. The surface of the sign was covered with a liberal coat of the stuff. Once dry, I used a sheet of parchment paper and a small iron to press the image onto the sign. The heat from the iron softened the Mod Podge and sealed the image onto the sign. Then a topcoat of Mod Podge was applied.

Finalizing the Easter Makeover
It was now time to embellish this project. So I tied a bow with some green ribbon that I had on hand; then glued it to the top of the sign.

Using a hot glue gun I added some spring florals and greenery to the bow.
And LOOK how adorable this project turned out!

I am totally crushing on this Easter sign. Here are a few pictures of ways to display it.

Wowza!!!!!

I hope this Easter makeover of a thrift store purchase has inspired you to create something beautiful for your home. Until next time………
Happy Crafting!
