Easy Calendar DIY Project – January

You are here: Home / Budget-Friendly / Easy Calendar DIY Project – January

Hello Sweet Friends,

The DIY craft project idea I have for you today is an EASY calendar page project. I got a 2023 calendar with the cutest farmhouse-y images; every single month is SUPER cute! So I have set a goal for myself to create something fabulous each month using that month’s image. I’m already a little behind, but will soon catch up… hopefully.

January’s image is a wintery hot chocolate design with a farmhouse vibe to it. I decided to mount it to a canvas and then jazz it up with some winter embellishments. I hope you like it.

Follow along for the directions to create this EASY calendar page project.

Supply list

  • January calendar page
  • 11 X 14 stretched canvas
  • winter embellishment and ribbon
  • white and brown paint
  • paint brush
  • Mod Podge
  • parchment paper
  • mini iron
  • glue gun
2023 Seasons of Joy calendar by Jennifer Pugh

The first step for this project is to paint the 11 X 14 canvas off-white. I chose off-white because it matches the background of January’s image. The canvas comes with a coat of white gesso/primer already on it, but I wanted it to be more of an off-white color.

After the paint dried, I then added a very liberal coat of Mod Podge to the canvas; letting it dry before moving on to the next step.

The next step is an easy, less messy way to add the image to the canvas. I centered the calendar page image on the canvas and then covered it with parchment paper. Using a mini crafting iron, I ironed the image onto the canvas, paying special attention to the edges of the image. The heat from the iron slightly melts the Mod Podge and helps the image adhere to the canvas.

I applied a final coat of Mod Podge on top. Then blended a little brown paint around the edges to give it a distressed aged look.

My final step for this project was adding a bow hanger and some wintery embellishments. First I tied a simple bow leaving two 10 inch streamers. The ends of the wire that I tied the bow with were looped into a hanger for the finished piece. Then I hot-glued some winter stems and berries into the bow and added a pine cone in the middle.

I put some hot glue onto the streamers and pressed the canvas onto the ribbon streamers.

Once the hot glue dried, I had myself a pretty cute winter canvas! I think it is the perfect thing to display at a hot cocoa bar.

As a final embellishment, I added a few mini wooden snowflakes painted white! How CUTE did this turn out?

I hope I’ve given you an idea that you can use for this January image or any calendar page that you love. If you like this idea, then follow along for the year to see what I have planned for each month. Up next, February. See you next time….

Happy Crafting!

Pamela

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
