Easy Craft using a January Calendar Image

You are here: Home / Budget-Friendly / Easy Craft using a January Calendar Image

Hello Sweet Friends,

For today’s craft idea, I have an easy craft using a January calendar image from Jennifer Pugh’s 2024 Seasons of Joy calendar. The idea is not limited to this particular image; any calendar image, printable, napkin, etc. could be used.

Even though this image is not very wintry, I thought the finished piece would go well some of my winter decor because the color scheme is very neutral. So that makes it the PERFECT craft for this cold winter day.

I hope you like this idea as much as I do. Follow along and I’ll show you step-by-step how I created this beautiful piece.

Supplies needed

  • January calendar image
  • round sign from Dollar Tree
  • sandpaper
  • Mod Podge
  • Waverly Chalk Paint, plaster
  • Waverly Antique Wax
  • paint brush
  • scissors
  • crafting iron
  • parchment paper
  • ribbon
  • faux greenery and florals and/or other embellishment
  • glue gun

I got the round “Beach “ sign at Dollar Tree, and it was the perfect size and shape for this project. I just had to get rid of the glitter on the letters. Even though most of the sign would be covered up by the calendar image, I worried that the texture of the glittery words might show through.

So that was the first step in this project; I got a piece of sandpaper and went to town. That glitter was very stubborn but I finally got most of it off of the sign.

The next step was to paint the sign. I knew the calendar image would cover all but the edges of the sign, but I went ahead and painted the entire sign white to be thorough. I gave it two coats with dry time in between.

Then I covered the entire sign with a thick coat of Mod Podge and let it dry.

While the Mod Podge was drying, I cut out the January image from the calendar. Instead of cutting out a perfect circular shape, I cut a wavy line around the wreath image. I just LOVE the image and the simple sweet message, “be kind”.

This next step is the EASIEST way to use Mod Podge that I have found. I simply placed the cut image onto the sign that is covered in dry Mod Podge, cover with a piece of parchment paper, and iron with a small crafting iron. This process keeps the image so smooth with no wrinkles at all.

Then the edges of the sign were touched up with a little more white paint and some of the antique wax. The antique wax gave it a bit of a distressed look

Keeping the neutral color scheme, I tied a small off-white bow, and gathered a few faux florals and greenery.

Then I glued the bow and embellishments to the top of the sign. And it turned out so dang CUTE!

I also added a little surprise on the back; the remaining message from the calendar image. It was too sweet just to throw away, so I attached it with some Mod Podge.

I am just so THRILLED with how this project looks. And I think is looks GREAT mixed in with my winter decor. BUT I will be able to keep it on display for as long as I like as I transition to spring decor.

I hope this project has inspired you to get creative and make something similar.

Until next time……. Happy Crafting!

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
