Hello Sweet Friends,
It’s been a while since I’ve published a new post, so I thought it was about time. Today I’m sharing a Valentine craft idea made with mostly Dollar Tree supplies. It is so EASY to make and very budget friendly. Since Valentine’s is not a BIG holiday for home decor, an inexpensive piece like this is perfect!

For those who don’t usually decorate for Valentine’s Day, this project could be tweaked a little and be pretty for wedding decor or bedroom decor. Use any color you like, I just used red because I had Valentine’s Day on the brain.

Follow along for the supply list and super EASY instructions to make one for yourself.

Supply list

  • Dollar Tree word LOVE iron-on patch
  • Dollar Tree 5 x 7 frame
  • 5 x 7 canvas panel
  • red paint and paint brush
  • glue gun
  • embellishment

On my last trip to the local Dollar Tree, I found this beautiful word “LOVE” in pearls. It is an iron-on patch, but I had other plans for it. I just knew it would make a cute Valentine decor piece.

The first step for this Valentine craft idea was to paint the canvas panel with red paint. Any acrylic paint will work, but I used Waverly chalk paint in the color crimson. It is a beautiful deep red color that I think worked really well for this project.

It took three coats of the paint with dry time in between to get the color perfect.

Once the paint was dry, I hot glued the word LOVE onto the red canvas panel. Then it was ready to frame.

After removing the back of the frame, I also removed the glass and set aside. Then simply put the canvas into the frame and replaced the back.

Finishing the Valentine craft idea

At this point, the project was nearly finished. All that was left was to add an embellishment. I made a messy bow and glued a heart-shaped button into the middle, then glued it onto the top of the frame.

And look how charming this little sign turned out! So sweet.

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
