Hello Sweet Friends,
When I was a child, one of the favorite parts of fall was getting to carve a pumpkin to make a jack o’lantern. Back then, the mess did not bother me at all. But as an adult, I wanted an easier, less messy, way to decorate a pumpkin. So, with that in mind, today’s DIY is an EASY painted pumpkin project.
I have actually painted pumpkins before using acrylic paints. But after a Google and Pinterest search, I have discovered that paint pens can be used for decorating pumpkins. They are definitely a game-changer. Why did I not think of this before?
I hope you enjoy this painted pumpkin idea as much as I do! Follow along for the easy instructions.
Supply list
- pumpkins
- white paint pens
- optional, white acrylic paint and brush

I started out with three different sizes of white paint pens because I was not sure what I would need. So I began with the largest size (Super) and drew the outline of a large flower.

After drawing an outline, I filled in the area. And I just kept going until the entire pumpkin was covered with the flowers. If you make a mistake, just wipe off with a damp paper towel as quickly as you can, before the paint has a chance to set.
If you don’t like to freehand a design, you could use a stencil, or just choose a simple pattern like polka dots.

Then I took the medium paint pen and outlined the flowers to give them a little more definition. And at this point, the pumpkin could have been finished, but of course, I had to add just a little something EXTRA.
I painted the stem white also, using white acrylic paint and a small paint brush. This step is optional, of course.

The first pumpkin was finished! On to the second one.
On pumpkin number two I drew vertical lines and added small leaves.

All in all, there were six vertical lines around the pumpkin. I think it’s looking pretty cute. Painting the stem finished it.

Oh my gosh, I just LOVE how they both turned out! I’m totally CRUSHING on this easy project. LOOK at the finished pumpkins below. They turned out WAY better that I even thought they would.

I truly do hope that I’ve inspired you to give this a try. It was just so EASY!
Until next time….
Happy Crafting!
Pamela
