Easy Valentine Sign using Dollar Tree Supplies

You are here: Home / Budget-Friendly / Easy Valentine Sign using Dollar Tree Supplies

Hello Sweet Friends,

For today’s DIY, I will show you how to create an EASY Valentine sign using Dollar Tree supplies. Budget-friendly crafts are the best. And did I also mention that this one is ADORABLE?!

When I was at my local Dollar Tree recently, I found a two-pack of the CUTEST Valentine gift bags. One of the bags looked PERFECT for a small sign, so that’s just what I decided to make with it. And this sign could be used on a tiered tray or window sill, as a shelf sitter, hanging on a peg, or just about any place you can think of.

Keep reading for the simple instructions for this Valentine DIY. I hope you like it as much as I do.

Supplies needed

  • Dollar Tree Valentine gift bag
  • Dollar Tree blank sign
  • white paint
  • small paint brush
  • scissors
  • Mod Podge
  • parchment paper
  • small crafting iron
  • antique wax
  • glue gun
  • fabric strips, buttons, other embellishments

After removing the twine hanger, I painted a coat of Waverly chalk paint (in the color plaster) onto the mini sign. Once the paint had dried, I gave it a liberal coat of Mod Podge.

While I waited for the Mod Podge to dry, I cut the image from the gift bag to size. It was a perfect fit for the small sign.

In order to adhere the image to the sign, I centered the image on the sign, covered with parchment paper and used my crafting iron. The iron really helps to smooth out all of the wrinkles as well as meld the image to the sign.

For the next step, I added a little Waverly antique wax around the edges of the sign to give it an aged, distressed look. I used a baby wipe to help smooth out the wax.

After reattaching the twine hanger, I decided to add some fabric/rag strips for an embellishment. I had some fabric in my craft stash that I thought was a perfect match for the sign. So I tore it into strips and tied them onto the twine hanger.

After getting the rag strips tied onto the twine, I decided to add a few buttons on the sign for an additional embellishment. Isn’t this piece LOOKING so cute?

Oh my GOSH! Isn’t this little sign so SWEET and ADORABLE?

There are so many places I can use this in my home so I wasn’t sure where I wanted to display it. So I tried it out on my tiered tray. What do you think?

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
