Hello Friends,
Using moss in DIY projects is the perfect way to add natural elements to home decor. I just love the added texture and organic look; and of course, the beautiful green color. It’s perfect for the spring season and beyond. The only thing I don’t like about working with moss is the mess it creates, especially when it gets dried out. So for this project, I’ve come up with the perfect faux moss. Follow along to see what Dollar Tree product I used!
Below is an inspiration picture I found on Pinterest from A Diamond in the Stuff. Real moss sheets were used to create this banner.
Supply list for Faux Moss Banner
- pack of Brillo pads (3 count) Dollar Tree
- package of small wooden letters
- twine
- scissors
- glue gun
You won’t believe how easy this project is! Begin by deciding what word you would like for your banner. I decided to make two different banners; using the words LUCKY and SPRING.
I decided to leave them their natural wood color since I was going for a natural organic feel for this project. I purchased the package of letters at Walmart for $3 and still had many letters left for future projects.
Cut each Brillo pad in two. So each package has enough for six letters.
Can you believe how much these Brillo pads look like turf or moss? The color is just about perfect.
Cut the Brillo pads into the shape of a pennant. Use the first one as a pattern for the remaining Brillos.
Hot glue the wooden letters onto the Brillo pennants. Cut a length of twine for the space you will be hanging the banner.
Hot glue the twine to the top edge of the Brillo pennants. Once the glue is dry, the banner is ready for hanging! Yay!
How CUTE is this banner? Perfect for St. Patrick’s Day. Are you feeling a little GREEN?
On to the SPRING banner. I just followed the same steps for the next banner, and it was quickly finished.
The only difference was that I cut a different shaped pennant for the word SPRING.
I am just LOVING how these faux moss banners look! And they could not be easier to create. And best of all, none of the mess of using real moss.
Easy, budget-friendly, and no mess; the crafting trifecta in my humble opinion.
I hope I’ve given you some inspiration to create this decor project for part of your home decor.
