Hello Sweet Friends,
In this post I will show you how to create a beautiful “snow globe” Christmas scene using a mason jar sign from Dollar General and a Dollar Tree Christmas craft kit. It’s one of those projects that I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but in the end, I had nothing to worry about. It turned out BEAUTIFULLY!
The DT craft kit is meant to be a Christmas scene on a small base. And the DG mason jar sign has a summer design on it, so it was ready for a makeover. I decided to combine the two inexpensive items and created a cute little Christmas decor piece for only a few dollars.
Gather around my crafting table and I’ll show you the steps I took to make this Christmas decor piece.
Supply list
- Dollar General mason jar sign
- Dollar Tree Christmas scene craft kit
- red, white, and green paint
- paint brush
- Mod Podge
- iridescent glitter
- small embellishment
- glue gun
The first step in this project is painting the mason jar sign with white paint. To get good coverage it took two coats and I let it dry in between. I did not paint over the metal lid because I liked the way it looked already. I used an off-white chalk paint but any white acrylic paint will work.
While the white paint was drying, I moved on to the next item. I painted the house with red paint that had been watered down a little because I wanted to give it a more muted look.
I watered down some green paint and worked on the trees next. I even painted the little tree with some green paint.
I finished the house and trees by adding some white paint to the roof and to the tree limbs to look like they were snow-covered. I even painted the little package to use behind the doorway of the house.
After everything is painted and dried, I was ready to assemble it all together. The grouping of trees was the first to be glued to the mason jar sign, followed by the house. Before I attached the house, I glued the small package that I had painted white and glued it onto the back, so it look like a door. Lastly, I glue the small tree to the front of the house.
I brushed Mod Podge onto the “snow globe” where I wanted a little extra sparkle and I sprinkled it with glitter, shaking off the excess. I added a final flourish of raffia, berries, and foliage onto the lid with hot glue.
And BAM! I had myself an adorable Christmas snow globe sign!
I just can’t say how pleased I am with this project! It has so many elements that I love; mason jar, snow globe, sparkles, muted colors, a rustic farmhouse look.
I hope I’ve inspired you to take this craft idea and put your own spin on it! Get a craft kit from the Dollar Tree and create something new out of it.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this tutorial and until next time….
