Hello Sweet Friends,
Today’s DIY project, a beautiful sunflower wreath, features some of my favorite flowers, sunflowers. They are so bright, cheerful, and irresistible; and are the perfect decor flower for late summer into the fall season.
The inspiration for this project came from a calendar page in the 2024 Seasons of Joy calendar by Jennifer Pugh. The actual image for the month of September has a sunflower wreath with the message, Sunshine Welcome. So I decided to take it a step further and add this image to the center of a wreath of sunflowers.
I hope you love the finished project as much as I do. Follow along for the step by step instructions on how to create this beautiful sunflower wreath.
Supplies needed
- round DT sign or round wood plaque, approximately 10 or 11 inch diameter
- DT wire wreath, approximately 12 inch diameter
- calendar page
- 2 rolls of DT neutral ribbon, 5 or 6 yards
- various faux sunflowers
- scissors
- wire cutters
- hot glue gun
- Mod Podge
- wire

Let’s get started on this Beautiful Sunflower Wreath
The first step in creating this beautiful sunflower wreath was to cover the DT wire wreath with a neutral ribbon. Even though the ribbon does not really show in the finished wreath, it gives the sunflowers something to adhere to. So that’s why I do it.

Using a glue gun, I started by gluing the end of the ribbon to the wreath and just kept wrapping it around the wreath until it was covered. I spot glued every so many wraps to help secure it. It took almost two full rolls of DT ribbon.

After setting the ribbon-covered wreath to the side, I focused on the calendar image. So I lightly sanded the round DT sign and applied a liberal coat of Mod Podge to it. Then I let it dry thoroughly
The calendar image was then centered onto the round sign, and ironed with a small crafting iron. Then I trimmed the excess image with scissors. I didn’t get any pictures of this process; just after the image was already on the sign.

The round sign needed some extra holes drilled into it so I could wire it to the wreath, so I enlisted the help of Mr. Craftsy Soul. There was already one hole, and two more were added. Using a short length of wire, doubled up, I ran the wire through each hole, through the burlap ribbon, and through a wire of the wreath frame. The wire I used is one of my favorite and versatile craft supplies that I use. (Grab some for yourself from Amazon with my affiliate link right here.)

Let’s Add Some Sunflowers
Now that most of the prep work was finished, it was time to add the sunflowers. I had one large sunflower bush from Walmart that had five blooms on it. After removing the blooms from the stems, I glued them onto the wreath evenly spaced apart. I also cut the leaves from this bush, but added them in at a later point in the process.

Next, I had a smaller size sunflower bush from Dollar Tree which I also separated the bloom from the stems. Then did the same with a mini sunflower bush also from Dollar Tree. I began glueing the two smaller size sunflowers in between the larger ones until it looked full.

Lastly, I glued in those faux leaves that I set aside earlier. I just added them where I thought they were needed all around the perimeter of the wreath.
A Beautiful Sunflower Wreath is Finished
Oh my gosh, doesn’t this wreath look GORGEOUS? I mean, c’mon, doesn’t it just make you happy to look at it?

If you can’t tell, I just LOVE sunflowers! They just look so CHEERFUL.

I hope this beautiful sunflower wreath project inspires you to get creative and make something pretty for your home that includes at least a few sunflowers.
Until next time…….. Happy Crafting!
