Hello Sweet Friends,
In today’s blog post, I will be showing you how to create wall decor using a calendar page. If you have been following Craftsy Soul for a while now, you may know that I’m working my way through Jennifer Pugh’s 2023 Seasons of Joy calendar, creating a different craftsy DIY project for each month. I will be using May’s image for this project; a beautiful image of a bouquet of fresh lavender.
This DIY decor project is fairly EASY and definitely budget-friendly. I used a $3 wooden decor rectangle that I had in my craft stash; originally from the Target Dollar Spot, I think. And also used some ribbons and faux lavender for embellishment. Follow along to see just how easy this project was to create!
Supply list
- May image from 2023 Seasons of Joy calendar
- wooden decor rectangle approx. 8 1/2 x 11
- Mod Podge
- small iron and parchment paper
- various ribbons
- faux florals including lavender
- small piece of floral wire
- glue gun
- scissors
- pencil
- ruler
As you can see in the picture above, the calendar image is slightly larger than the wooden rectangle. So the first step for this project was to cut the calendar page to a usable size. I did this by centering it, then measuring with a ruler and marking it with a pencil. Then I cut along the pencil lines.
From the pieces that I cut off, there were some little floral images I still wanted to use. So I cut out a few of them to add to this decor piece.
Then I applied a coat of Mod Podge to the wood sign and pressed the image onto it, smoothing it out as best as I could. The image fit perfectly onto the sign. I added the little extra pieces onto the sign as well. After drying for a little while, I applied a top coat of Mod Podge.
After drying overnight, I noticed quite a few “bubbles” in the paper. To smooth these out I used some parchment paper and a small crafting iron. (This trick has been a game-changer for me when working on decoupage projects. It works surprisingly well.)
For an embellishment, I created a bow by stacking pieces of neutral ribbons and securing it in the middle with some floral wire. Then I glued in some faux florals that coordinated with the sign.
I attached a strip of fabric as a hanger and wired the bow to that. To create a hanger, I used the excess wire to create a loop.
And BOOM! I had myself a super cute hanging decor piece!
How CUTE did this turn out? I can’t tell you how pleased I am with it.
I hope I’ve given you a useful idea that you can recreate for your home.
I’ll admit, trying to come up with a different idea each month has been a challenge. But I’m determined to finish out the year. If you enjoy this, check out my other calendar page ideas here.
Until next time…..
