How to Make a Rustic Farmhouse Easter Sign using a Calendar Page

You are here: Home / Budget-Friendly / How to Make a Rustic Farmhouse Easter Sign using a Calendar Page

Hello Sweet Friends,

For today’s DIY idea, I will show you how to make a rustic farmhouse Easter sign using a calendar page from Jennifer Pugh’s 2023 Seasons of Joy calendar. I’ve been working through the calendar this year and I am up to April. The image is a sweet little bunny wreath with sort of a farmhouse vibe. I knew it would be perfect for a galvanized metal sign that was is my craft stash.

So gather around my crafting table and I’ll show you just how EASY this Easter sign is to create!

Supply list

  • April Calendar image
  • 14″ x 14″ galvanized metal sign
  • Mod Podge and paint brush
  • cinnamon
  • various ribbons and faux carrots
  • glue gun
  • scissors

The galvanized metal sign was from Walmart a few years back and I thought it was the perfect size for this project. The calendar images are 12″ x 12”, so that left a nice border around the image in the finished piece.

I wanted the edge of the image to have a “torn” look instead of a straight edge. To do this, I “painted” a line of water along the tear line and let it soak in a little. Then I ripped the paper along that line and had a nice torn look. The finished size was approximately 10.5 “ x 10.5”.

In order to attach the calendar image to the wavy metal sign, I started in the middle. I didn’t measure, I just eyeballed it. I brushed Mod Podge along the middle curve and pressed the middle of the image onto the metal sign.

You can see where the center of the image is pressed into the curve. I continued working downward, one curve or hump, at a time. First brushing on the Mod Podge, then pressing the image to it.

I repeated the same process going upward on the sign until the entire image was attached, paying special attention to the edges.

Then I added a top coat of Mod Podge over the entire image to finish.

I wanted the metal sign to have a more vintage feel, so I added some “rust” to the sign. This was accomplished by brushing on some Mod Podge in random places and then sprinkling it with cinnamon. Then topping the “rust” spots with another coat of Mod Podge.

The sign was nearly finished! Yay! But I thought it still needed some type of embellishment.

So I tied a messy bow with various coordinating ribbons and hot glued in the top right corner of the sign. Then I hot glued a few Dollar Tree carrots for a final flourish.

And BAM, I had myself a super CUTE Easter sign. I mean, how ADORABLE is this sign?

I think this sign is the perfect addition to my Easter decor. I LOVE the farmhouse vibe, the bright colors, the touch of buffalo check, the “rusty” metal; basically, I love everything about it.

I hope I’ve inspired you to give this DIY project a try. If you want to see some of my other DIY ideas using calendar pages, go here.

Until next time…..

Meet Pamela, the Creator

Pamela, Creator

Born and raised in rural, Missouri, I'm a wife of 30 years and mother to one adult son.

My interest in all things artsy-craftsy began as a young girl. If there was a craft kit for it, I've probably tried it: paint-by-number, latch-hooking rugs, candle-making, shrinky-dinks, string-art, etc. I loved them all! For many years I was able to express my creativity on-the-job as a florist, and love using silk florals in my home decorating projects.

I'm excited to share my crafting and home decorating ideas with you. I like finding that perfect thrift store item and crafting something new out of it, or giving that old piece of furniture a new life with a fresh coat of paint. I hope my projects will inspire you to get craftsy and create things to help decorate a home you love.

Happy Crafting!
