Hello Sweet Friends,
Tassels are so much fun! They can be used for so many different craft and DIY projects; garlands, pillows, jewelry, keychains, etc. I have the easiest tassel tutorial for you today; no special tools required. Following these step-by-step instructions will have you cranking out tassels in no time. So follow along and see just how simple it is.
Supplies needed for DIY Tassel and Garland
- skein of embroidery floss/thread per 2 tassels
- scissors
- wooden beads
- waxed cord
All you need to create tassels is a skein of embroidery floss and a pair of scissors. The beads and waxed cord will be used for the beaded tassel garland.
From left to right:
Open one skein of embroidery thread/floss, cut 6” lengths, to be used for tying and wrapping around the tassels. (this skein is an extra and will only be used for cutting pieces to be used on the tassels.)
Take two 6” lengths of thread and tie up each end of one skein.
Using two more lengths of thread, wrap each end of the skein, forming the “tops” of each tassel. Tuck any loose ends into the tassel.
Cut the skein in half.
Remove the wrappers by sliding off of the skein.
Fringe out the ends with a comb if desired.
And BAM! You’ve just created two tassels!
To create a beaded garland from the tassels, make 10 – 12 more tassels.
To create a beaded garland with the tassels, cut a piece of waxed cord to the length desired. I found the waxed cord at Walmart in the jewelry-crafting section. It is very sturdy and is easy to string beads together without having to use a needle.
String beads onto the cord until it is the desired length. Then just tie the tassels onto the garland in between beads. Space them as close or as far apart as desired. In the garland I created, there are 10 beads between each tassel.
I secured each end of the garland with a knot and added a tassel.
I’m just LOVING how this garland turned out; sort of a BOHO look. I’m using it in with some of my Valentines decor, but since it’s so neutral, I think it can be used year-round.
I hope I’ve inspired you to try this easy technique for tassel-making. I’m pretty sure I see more tassel-making in my future. How about you?
To create the other heart garland, I simple strung the small wooden hearts on a piece of small twine. I had the small hearts in my stash and thought they would look good with this garland.
